Bitcoin Social Fear Hits Record Low as Coldcard Exploit Drives Historic Shift in Market Sentiment

  • Santiment recorded Bitcoin’s lowest positive-to-negative social sentiment ratio ever as Coldcard exploit fears overwhelmed optimism across major crypto platforms.
  • Hardware wallet security replaced price speculation while Bitcoin remained relatively stable despite unprecedented bearish commentary dominating online investor conversation.
  • Extreme pessimism surpassed previous crisis readings, although analysts noted the indicator reflects crowd psychology instead of blockchain activity.

Bitcoin has recorded its weakest social sentiment reading on record as concerns surrounding the Coldcard firmware exploit spread across the cryptocurrency community. According to Santiment, the positive-to-negative commentary ratio across X, Reddit, Telegram, and other social platforms dropped to its lowest level since the analytics firm began tracking Bitcoin-related discussions. The latest reading reflects mounting anxiety among retail investors, with many questioning the security of self-custody solutions following reports that more than $40 million worth of Bitcoin was stolen.

According to Santiment, Bitcoin generated only 0.58 bullish comments for every bearish comment across monitored social platforms. The firm noted that the current reading represents the most negative sentiment ratio in its modern database. Although the measurement reflects only one day of activity, the level of fear exceeded previous market shocks recorded by the platform.

Unlike earlier crypto crises, this incident has centered on hardware wallet security rather than centralized exchanges or decentralized finance platforms. Consequently, many online conversations shifted from price speculation to concerns about protecting digital assets. That change has intensified uncertainty even though Bitcoin avoided a comparable decline in market value.

Cold Wallet Security Becomes the Center of Bitcoin Discussions

According to Santiment, previous market disruptions, including the FTX collapse, the Mt. Gox failure, and the COVID-19 market crash, generated widespread panic throughout the cryptocurrency sector. However, the analytics firm explained that those events mainly affected exchanges, custodians, and leveraged trading platforms. In contrast, the Coldcard firmware exploit has raised concerns about self-custody, an area many Bitcoin holders have long considered the safest way to store their assets.

The accompanying Santiment chart illustrates the scale of the sentiment shift. Earlier this year, geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel produced what was then the platform’s second-most bearish Bitcoin sentiment reading. Nevertheless, the Coldcard-related panic pushed negative commentary to an even higher level.

Moreover, the data shows that Bitcoin‘s price remained relatively stable while bearish discussions accelerated across social media. Positive commentary declined noticeably, whereas negative posts increased across multiple platforms. As a result, the positive-to-negative sentiment ratio dropped to roughly 0.56, reinforcing the growing imbalance between fear and optimism within the community.

Santiment also explained that the indicator measures crowd psychology rather than blockchain activity or trading volume. Even so, many market participants monitor social sentiment because extreme readings have historically coincided with major market turning points. Still, the firm emphasized that the current observation represents a single-day sample rather than a confirmed long-term trend.

Conclusion

Bitcoin’s social sentiment has reached its most bearish level on record as the Coldcard firmware exploit reshaped discussions across major crypto communities. While the market price has remained comparatively resilient, the surge in negative commentary highlights how security concerns have become the dominant focus for Bitcoin investors.
