YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — The popular non-fungible token (NFT) collection, Pudgy Penguins, is making news again. Pixelverse has integrated the Pudgy Penguin character, “Pudgy,” into its mini-game on Telegram. Pudgy joins other crypto characters like Doge from Dogecoin and Mew from the Solana memecoin MEW.
On July 16, Pixelverse announced this development. Players can now enjoy playing as Pudgy in the game. The official release of the Pudgy Penguins game is set for 2025, marking a collaboration between the two projects.
NFT Sales Drop 45% in Q2 2024
The NFT market experienced a decline in the second quarter of 2024. Sales volumes dropped by 45% compared to the first quarter, according to CryptoSlam. The data showed a decrease from $4.1 billion in Q1 to $2.24 billion in Q2, the lowest quarter for NFTs since Q3 2023.
Anoir Houmou, founder and CEO of the Sui-backed video engagement platform RECRD, described this as a correction cycle. Houmou indicated that the market is maturing after years of rapid growth.
PixelTap Hits 50M Users, Focus on Community Key
Pixelverse’s mini-game, PixelTap, has attracted over 50 million users within its first month. This highlights the game’s popularity and strong community engagement within the Web3 gaming space.
Kori Leon, co-founder of Pixelverse, emphasized the importance of community, culture, and distribution in Web3 projects. He stated,
“Over the years, we’ve witnessed the rise of numerous infrastructure projects that started with grand promises but failed to attract users beyond the Web3 community. For the ecosystem to thrive, it is crucial for projects to focus on what makes them successful: community, culture, and distribution.”
Pudgy Penguins’ Million Plushies, Hamster Kombat’s 239M Users
The Pudgy Penguins NFT collection remains significant in the Ethereum-based NFT market. Despite the broader market downturn, the collection has maintained strong sales. According to CryptoSlam, Pudgy Penguins recorded a sales volume of $12 million in the last month.
Luca Schnetzler, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, highlighted their success in merchandise sales. He stated that they sold one million plushies based on the NFT collection in stores worldwide. This achievement shows the collection’s continued relevance.
The TON-based game Hamster Kombat has reached 239 million users in less than three months. On July 4, Telegram founder Pavel Durov praised the game’s success, noting its potential to onboard 200 million users into blockchain technology.
