Goldman Sachs XRP ETF Claim Resurfaces — But The Numbers Look Familiar

A viral post claims Goldman Sachs just re-entered XRP. It says the bank holds exposure through four spot ETFs.

The problem is these exact figures have shown up before. Last time, the story wasn’t as new as it looked.

What The Post Actually Claims

Crypto commentator Xaif Crypto posted this on August 13. He said Goldman disclosed roughly $153.8 million in XRP ETF exposure.

That exposure spans four funds: Bitwise’s XRP ETF, the Franklin XRP Trust, the Grayscale XRP Trust, and the 21Shares XRP ETF.

The post included a screenshot of an SEC EDGAR filing. It shows a Form 13F-HR filed August 14, 2026. The filing covers the period ending June 30, 2026.

Why This Exact Number Deserves A Second Look

Here’s the catch. That same $153.8 million figure showed up before. It first surfaced in February 2026, when Techgaged reported that Goldman had boosted its XRP exposure to $153 million across the same four funds, as part of a broader $2.36 billion crypto allocation. By May, the story flipped entirely.

Techgaged covered how Goldman suddenly abandoned its XRP and Solana ETF bets, exiting both positions in full during Q1 2026.

Screenshots claiming Goldman still held XRP circulated again around that time, and closer checks found they were recycled Q4 2025 data, not fresh positions.

Institutional XRP ETFs Have Had A Rough Year Either Way

Whether this claim holds up or not, institutional interest in XRP ETFs has swung a lot in 2026.

Goldman’s original Q4 2025 stake made it the largest disclosed institutional holder of XRP ETF shares in the US at the time.

It accounted for roughly 73% of the top 30 institutions’ combined exposure.

When the bank exited in Q1, it also dropped its Solana ETF holdings. SEC filings showed it kept Bitcoin exposure near $700 million.

The Chart Sends Its Own Mixed Signal

As of 14:58 UTC on August 16, 2026 (14:UTC), XRP/USD trades at $0.9999 on the weekly chart. That’s down 0.17%.

Price has fallen hard from a July high above $3.66. It now sits right at the $1.00 level.

The weekly MACD histogram has ticked slightly positive after months of red bars.

But the gap between the MACD and signal lines stays wide. Any recovery attempt still looks early and unconfirmed.

Is this filing a genuine institutional re-entry, or just another recycled screenshot making the rounds again?
