In Brief:
- XRP gained 17% despite worsening spot and perpetual futures CVD, while Binance open interest reached $276.5 million amid persistent selling.
- Bitfinex XRP shorts fell 41.5% while longs fell 5.3%, suggesting bearish exposure contracted faster without confirming a squeeze.
- XRP faces resistance around $1.60 to $1.65, with analyst Xaif identifying another supply zone between $1.70 and $1.80 if buyers advance.
Crypto analyst Xaif Crypto has urged XRP traders to examine a chart showing substantial selling pressure alongside a 17% price gain. According to on-chain data from CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha, XRP rose from roughly $1.30 on September 16 to $1.52 on September 27, while Binance open interest climbed about 32%, from $210 million to $276.5 million.
Meanwhile, Binance perpetual futures cumulative volume delta (CVD) fell from roughly negative $1 billion to negative $1.29 billion, indicating that sellers initiated more trades than buyers during XRP’s advance. The falling CVD reading indicates more aggressive selling despite XRP’s gains.
Similarly, estimated spot CVD across centralized exchanges declined from negative $2.27 billion to negative $2.70 billion, showing a further $430 million deterioration alongside the selling recorded in Binance perpetual futures.
Despite those readings, XRP held around $1.52, well above its September 16 level near $1.30, creating the price and trading-flow divergence Xaif urged traders to examine.

Rising Open Interest Complicates XRP’s Trading Picture
Xaif noted that XRP’s open interest reached $276.5 million while spot and perpetual CVD remained deeply negative, suggesting buyers absorbed supply. Meanwhile, Taha viewed rising open interest and falling perpetual CVD as consistent with a bearish tilt, although outstanding contracts alone cannot identify the direction of newly opened positions.

If bearish positions become crowded, further XRP gains could prompt traders to close shorts and add buying demand. Xaif also reported that Bitfinex XRP shorts declined 41.5% over one week against a 5.3% drop in longs, indicating a faster reduction in bearish exposure.
XRP’s Recent High Sets Up the Next Price Test
Xaif identified $1.60 to $1.65 as a possible range if short covering supports XRP, which recently touched $1.62 before retreating toward $1.54. Beyond $1.65, Xaif highlighted a larger supply zone from $1.70 to $1.80, where increased selling could challenge another advance.
Meanwhile, Taha pointed to a similar past condition. According to him, XRP rallied roughly 65% from $1.60 to $2.65, followed by deeply negative funding, although that precedent cannot predict the current outcome. Ultimately, the chart shows XRP rising despite aggressive selling and higher open interest, making another test of $1.60 to $1.65 significant.
