One HYPE Whale Has Been Selling for 2 Weeks — What Could Be Behind It?

While Hyperliquid’s HYPE token has climbed 6.8% over the past week to $86.42, a large whale has been quietly reducing its position.
A whale has been sending millions of dollars worth of HYPE to exchanges almost every day, raising questions about whether the activity is simple profit-taking or part of a larger exit.

Persistent Exchange Deposits
The whale has deposited HYPE to Bybit and Gate on a near-daily basis over the past two weeks. In total, it has moved 232,610 HYPE, worth roughly $19.67 million, to the two exchanges.
Recent transfers ranged from about 9,000 to 21,600 HYPE, with deposits alternating between the platforms.
The repeated pattern stands out because the selling has been spread across multiple days rather than concentrated in one large transaction.
Such a strategy could allow the whale to reduce its exposure while limiting the potential market impact of selling a large position at once.
HYPE Price Has Held Up
Despite the steady exchange inflows, HYPE has remained relatively strong. The token recovered from around $80 earlier in the week, briefly approached $89, and is now consolidating near $86.
That resilience suggests that demand has so far been strong enough to absorb the whale’s selling.

However, continued deposits could become more significant if the wallet maintains the same pace or if broader market demand weakens.
What Could Be Driving the Selling?
Several explanations are possible. The whale could simply be locking in profits, rebalancing its portfolio, or reducing exposure after HYPE’s recent recovery.
Another possibility is a gradual exit strategy. Splitting transactions across different days and exchanges could help the holder avoid creating a sudden supply shock.
Still, on-chain transfers alone cannot reveal the whale’s exact intentions or its original acquisition price. The activity therefore signals distribution, but not necessarily a bearish conviction.
What to Look Forward To
The key factor now is whether the deposits continue and how the market responds. If HYPE keeps absorbing the supply without losing important price levels, the whale’s selling may have limited impact.
But if exchange inflows accelerate while demand weakens, the persistent distribution could become a larger headwind for HYPE.
