Summary

  • Grayscale will give ZCSH investors two extra shares for each share owned through its planned three-for-one split in late September.
  • ZCSH has attracted more than $233 million in cumulative inflows while its trading volume has surpassed $11 billion since launch.
  • Rising ZEC prices lifted mining participation, although greater solrate and difficulty reduced revenue generated by individual mining machines across Zcash.

Grayscale has scheduled a 3-for-1 share split for its Zcash ETF, ZCSH, within one month of its debut. According to the SEC filing, shareholders will receive two additional shares for every ZCSH share held at close on September 28.

Grayscale will distribute the additional shares after market close on September 29, while split-adjusted trading begins on September 30. The adjustment will triple each investor’s share count while reducing the price of every share proportionally.

Consequently, the split will not change the total value of investors’ holdings or increase the fund’s underlying net assets. However, a lower share price could make ZCSH more accessible to investors seeking regulated exposure to Zcash.

Investors have contributed more than $233 million to ZCSH since its August 25 launch, including several substantial daily inflows. Notably, the fund attracted over $112 million on September 8, representing nearly half its cumulative inflows.

ZCSH also recorded $46.6 million in net inflows on Wednesday, showing demand amid cryptocurrency market volatility. Moreover, the fund held $890 million in net assets and exceeded $11 billion in cumulative trading volume by September 17.

Zcash Rally Draws More Mining Competition

Zcash’s native ZEC token reached $1,521 during early Friday trading, establishing what observers consider an effective all-time high. According to Zcash Info, network solrate increased from approximately 25 GSol/s in late August to nearly 32 GSol/s.

That movement represents growth of almost 28%, showing how quickly mining participation expanded alongside ZEC’s rising market value. Additionally, mining difficulty reached approximately 291 million as the protocol adjusted to the network’s growing computing capacity.

However, expanding solrate also increases competition because miners must divide available rewards among a greater number of machines. Consequently, individual equipment can generate lower returns even when ZEC’s price and overall network activity increase.

Estimated gross revenue from Bitmain’s Z15 Pro has fallen below its late-August level despite the cryptocurrency’s significant appreciation. Operators must consider electricity, equipment, cooling, and maintenance expenses when measuring their actual mining profitability. Therefore, Grayscale’s share split arrives as investment demand and mining competition reshape activity across the broader Zcash ecosystem.
