ZEC Keeps Setting New Highs — Even With Its Biggest Concern Still Alive

ZEC keeps printing new all-time highs. A few months ago, the token crashed to around $250 after minting bug news created massive uncertainty.

Today, it’s trading above $1,500 despite the same concerns still being discussed.

The Crash That Started It All

Zcash crashed more than 44% in a single day back in June, falling to roughly $314 after Shielded Labs disclosed a serious flaw in Orchard, Zcash’s shielded transaction pool.

The bug theoretically could have let someone mint unlimited counterfeit ZEC without detection.

Developers patched it within days, but the scare left a lasting question mark over the network’s supply integrity, one that hasn’t fully gone away even as price has recovered many times over.

What’s Fueling the Current Run

ZEC gained roughly 32% between September 15 and 17 alone. Part of that came from governance.

Nearly 2.4 million ZEC voted on the NU7 upgrade this week, with 99.9% backing faster block times.

Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang also disclosed that the firm holds ZEC, describing it as a private complement to Bitcoin. Both events landed in the same 48-hour window, compounding the move.

The Social Spike Behind the Latest Leg

Santiment’s chart explorer tracks Zcash’s social activity alongside price, and the data behind this week’s spike looks unusual.

X mentions ran 6.8 times above their 29-day baseline on September 17, while every other platform barely moved. That pushed X’s share of total ZEC chatter from 59% to 85% in a single day.

Santiment noted many of the posts followed an identical format, repeated whitelist application messages with different ticket numbers, suggesting the buzz wasn’t entirely organic even as price kept climbing regardless.

The Underlying Fix Is Still Playing Out

Developers finalized the Ironwood upgrade shortly after the original bug scare, introducing a shielded pool that lets holders independently verify the circulating supply.

That fix is part of what makes this week’s NU7 vote possible at all, since eligibility depended on holding shielded ZEC inside that newer pool.

Price Sits Well Above Where the Panic Started

ZEC traded at $1,567.91 as of 10:41 UTC on September 19, 2026, up 36.0% over seven days, per CoinGecko.

The chart shows a steady climb from around $1,100 on September 13 to a fresh high above $1,500.

With governance settled, institutional exposure confirmed, and a verifiable supply mechanism now live, ZEC’s rally looks driven by more than momentum alone, even if the social noise behind its latest leg deserves a second look.
