XRP’s Derivatives Boom Meets a Mega Price Ceiling

Ripple’s native XRP coin finished off August with a stupendous high on Futures markets, as leveraged traders outweighed Spot traders by trading volume on most days. The Open Interest (OI) now has slimmed closer to $3 billion, while XRP’s leveraged liquidations have compressed.

The compression’s a clear sign of a lower-leverage consolidation phase, as pointed out by Chart Nerd in a recent XRP price analysis. “Volatility will return”, he noted, while XRP’s bulls are now clinging on the $1.40 major support line to maintain some of last month’s gains. Then, $2 comes back in play.

XRP's are still trading considerably above the intermediate moving averages, which are roughly between $1.18 to $1.24. If bulls keep momentum, the near-term XRP price target falls in line with August’s top chart wick at $1.70, but the ultimate barrier remains in the confluent resistance at $1.55.

Judging from the Futures market setup, the short-selling XRP price traders kept paying for the bullish positions. The OI-weighted funding rate depicts a story of dominance. But that’s yet to reflect on XRP’s market value: While overall OI saw a partial unwind, the remaining Aggregated Long/Short Ratio is skewed at 71% green. “A liquidity flush remains likely," said Chart Nerd.

Presently, the OG altcoin is trading at $1.40, four cents above its SuperTrend price, which adds a support layer - big-time players tend to step in at that range. XRPs whales have been gradually positioning themselves since August 19, 2026, keeping the Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) well above zero. That typically means buying sentiment in relation to expected price volatility.
