Coinbase has expanded its UK offering with more than 170 derivatives contracts designed for eligible professional investors. According to a Coinbase blog post, the offering includes perpetuals, dated futures, and crypto options across several asset classes.
The rollout gives qualifying professional clients access to contracts covering cryptocurrencies, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange markets. Coinbase plans to introduce access progressively as it builds its Everything Exchange strategy within the UK.
Perpetual contracts will trade around the clock, allowing professional investors to manage positions outside conventional market hours. Additionally, these products will provide leverage of up to 50x, depending on the contract and eligibility requirements.
Dated futures will provide fixed settlement dates and leverage reaching 20x across supported markets. Meanwhile, Coinbase will limit its options offering to cryptocurrencies, including calls, puts, and multi-leg trading strategies. Access remains restricted to investors who satisfy eligibility requirements and qualify as professional clients under applicable rules.

Why Coinbase’s 170-Contract Expansion Matters for Its UK Strategy
The derivatives launch broadens Coinbase’s UK business beyond cryptocurrency spot trading and adds another component to its Everything Exchange strategy. Moreover, the company has expanded its product range to include equities, stablecoins, savings, and borrowing services.
Coinbase recently began rolling out access to nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks for eligible UK customers. Qualifying users can hold supported equities alongside cryptocurrency and fiat assets through the same platform.
Significantly, the wider product range supports Coinbase’s efforts to diversify revenue beyond Bitcoin spot trading. Its second-quarter report showed that 88% of net revenue came from sources other than Bitcoin spot transactions.
Furthermore, Coinbase reported a record 10.3% share of global cryptocurrency trading volume during the second quarter. The figure increased from 9.1% during the first quarter, reflecting a larger share of global trading activity.
MiFID License Supports Coinbase’s UK Derivatives Expansion
Regulatory permissions provide an important foundation for Coinbase’s growing range of products in the UK. The company recently secured a MiFID license, expanding its ability to provide derivatives products to professional investors.
Coinbase has described itself as the most comprehensively regulated cryptocurrency company operating within the UK market. Its regulatory disclosures identify CB Payments Ltd as the subsidiary handling several regulated services in the country.
The Financial Conduct Authority authorizes and regulates CB Payments Ltd for investment services. Additionally, the subsidiary holds authorization under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 for issuing electronic money.
Conclusion
Coinbase’s 170-contract derivatives offering adds another major product category to its growing UK financial services business. Moreover, the expansion strengthens its Everything Exchange strategy while keeping derivatives access limited to qualifying professional investors.
