Koi No Yokan

Koi No Yokan is a series of 169 procedural animated artworks exploring memory, nostalgia, and my relationship with Japanese culture. The title, Koi No Yokan (恋の予感), means “the premonition of love”, the feeling of meeting someone and somehow knowing you will fall in love with them. It reflects the connection I developed with Japanese culture growing up, through manga, anime, video games and TCGs. The series also draws from Gyakuyunyuu (逆輸入), or “reimportation”: the idea that Japanese pop culture travelled to the West, became part of our childhood, and is now being reinterpreted and brought back into the global art conversation through a Western lens.
