Prediction market apps let you buy a contract on a yes-or-no question. It pays $1 if the answer is yes and $0 if not.
We ranked 15 apps that offer these contracts to US traders, all under CFTC oversight. Some run their own exchange. Others route your order to one. That difference changes your fees, your funding options and what you can check.
Every app is scored on the same six criteria, from facts it publishes. Where an app publishes nothing, it scores zero on that line. Each review walks through fees, funding, withdrawals, trading rules, safety and recent news, with links to the sources. For live odds on the same question across venues, see CoinStats prediction markets.
Key takeaways
- Kalshi ranks first with 4.9 out of 5.
- 10 of the 15 apps belong to a company that owns or controls a CFTC-registered exchange. The other 5 route orders to someone else's.
- 12 of the 15 apps show live prices without an account. FanDuel Predicts, PrizePicks and Underdog Predict keep them inside the app.
- 14 apps take bank transfers, and 6 apps take crypto.
- Published fees on a $100 trade at 50¢ run from $0.00 to $5.00, depending on the app and contract.
- DraftKings Predictions, Fanatics Markets, FanDuel Predicts and PrizePicks offer sports contracts only in the states they list.
- Kalshi, Interactive Brokers and Webull pay interest or a coupon on your money. Most apps pay nothing.
- Withdrawals take from minutes to about five business days, depending on the app and the method.
First published September 25, 2026. Facts come from each app's own pages and our venue registry. Kalshi's open markets and volume come from its public API.
How we ranked them
Every app gets a score from 0 to 5 on six criteria. The total is the weighted mean, rounded to one decimal.
| Criterion | Weight | How it scores |
|---|---|---|
| Regulation | 25% | Its company owns or controls a CFTC-registered exchange that lists its contracts: 5. It only routes orders to other companies’ exchanges: 4. Not confirmed: 0. |
| Live, public prices | 20% | Live prices anyone can read without an account, on its website or a public API: 5. Prices only inside the app: 1. |
| Market coverage | 20% | Categories listed, out of six (sports, politics, economics, crypto, culture, climate and weather), scaled to 5. |
| Funding options | 15% | One point per rail: bank transfer, debit card, wire, a wallet such as PayPal, crypto. Five at most. |
| Published fees | 10% | Every fee a trade pays is published: 5. Only some are, such as a broker fee without the exchange fee: 2.5. None: 0. |
| State availability | 10% | Open in every state: 5. Each state closed to its sports contracts costs half a point. We count its published terms and court orders against it, or against the only exchange it routes to. No footprint we can confirm: 0. |
Regulation (25%)
Every app here is CFTC-regulated, so this criterion rewards structure. An app whose company runs the exchange it lists on scores 5.
A broker that only routes orders to other companies’ exchanges scores 4. A broker adds a layer between you and the market, and often a second fee.
Live, public prices (20%)
A public price lets you check an app against the market before you sign up.
Apps that show live prices on their website, or through a free API, score 5. Apps whose prices stay inside the app score 1.
12 of the 15 apps publish live prices.
Market coverage (20%)
More categories mean more ways to use one account. We count six: sports, politics, economics, crypto, culture, and climate and weather.
Each listed category adds a sixth of the five points. One open market in a category is enough to count it.
Funding options (15%)
Each funding rail earns a point, up to five. The rails are bank transfer, debit card, wire, a wallet such as PayPal, and crypto.
We count only the methods an app says can fund event contracts.
Published fees (10%)
A fee you can read before you trade is a fee you can plan for. Apps that publish every fee a trade pays score 5.
Apps that publish their own fee but not the exchange’s score 2.5. Apps that show a fee only on the order screen score 0.
State availability (10%)
An app open in every state scores 5. Each state closed to its sports contracts, by its own terms or a court order, costs half a point.
For a broker that uses one exchange, court orders against that exchange count too. Cease-and-desist letters count only once a court acts.
What counts as an entry
An app US residents can use to trade CFTC-regulated event contracts. It either runs an exchange or routes orders to one. We left out sweepstakes and social prediction apps, offshore platforms that bar US users, and sportsbooks.
Also left out: Polymarket's international site, where anyone in the US can only close positions. Polymarket US, its CFTC-regulated exchange, is ranked instead. PredictIt runs under CFTC no-action relief rather than as a registered exchange. Crypto.com's prediction markets trade on the same exchange as OG, with the same fees, so they share its entry.
Apps may block more states inside the app than they publish. We count only published terms and court orders. We have not traded on these apps. The scores rest on what each one publishes. Ties go to the higher unrounded score, then to name order.

PrizePicks pros and cons
Pros
- No fee at settlement. Holding to the end costs nothing extra; the fee applies only when you buy or sell.
- Published safeguards. Its broker posts daily segregation statements and monthly net-capital figures.
- One app for picks and contracts. Team and Culture Picks sit beside fantasy Player Picks, and lineups can mix them.
Cons
- Prices stay in the app. There are no public prices or API, so you cannot check a quote before signing up.
- An affiliate may trade against you. Its disclosure says an affiliated market maker may take the other side of your trade.
- Narrow funding. PayPal, Venmo and credit cards fund fantasy play, but not event contracts.
How your money is held
Contract money is held as segregated cleared-swaps collateral under CFTC Part 22. That protection ends once money moves to the fantasy account.

2.6/ 5
CoinStats scoreBest for: Underdog fantasy players.
Underdog Predict is run by UDM, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant since January 9, 2026. It launched in-app sports contracts with CDNA in September 2025. In July 2026 it opened its own exchange, UDX, after buying Aristotle Exchange. IG Group announced a proposed purchase of Underdog on July 30, 2026, subject to diligence and US approvals.

The app shows one market per game and picks the venue: UDX, Kalshi or CDNA. Prediction Cash Out sells at the market price before the event ends, subject to liquidity. Prediction Parlays take up to eight picks, and Combo Entries mix fantasy picks with contracts. Entries run from $1 to $2,000.
Each contract costs 1¢ a side, plus the exchange’s fee. Debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay and Trustly fund predictions; PayPal and Venmo do not. It is open in 46 states and DC, but not in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada or New York. Payouts typically arrive within 24 hours of settlement.

How to choose a prediction market app
- Check it is open where you live. Sports contracts are unavailable in some states. Legality by state
- Match the funding rail to your money. Dollars from a bank and crypto from a wallet lead to different apps.
- Read the fee schedule. Most exchange fees peak near 50¢ and shrink toward either end. Fees compared
- Check the markets you want. Coverage runs from sports-first apps to every category.
- Compare the price first. The same question can cost less on another venue. Kalshi vs Polymarket

Is your money safe on a prediction market app?
None of these apps is a bank, and SIPC insurance does not cover event contracts. Protection comes from CFTC rules instead. Brokers and clearinghouses must keep customer money apart from their own. Here is how each app describes where your money sits.
- Kalshi: Members’ funds are segregated at the clearinghouse, Kalshi Klear, and treated as belonging to members. Klear may not mix them with its own.
- Gemini Predictions: Your position money sits at Gemini Olympus in member accounts, apart from Olympus’s own funds.
- Polymarket US: Funds sit in a dedicated customer account, separate from Polymarket US’s operating money. The clearinghouse segregates its direct members’ funds.
- OG: Direct members fund a segregated account at NADEX’s settlement bank, and deposits count as member property under CFTC rules.
- Interactive Brokers: ForecastEx keeps member funds apart from its own and segregates customer funds under CFTC Part 22. SIPC does not cover futures.
- Robinhood: Robinhood Derivatives is not a bank, and its accounts carry no SIPC or FDIC cover. In an insolvency, CFTC Part 190 rules apply.
- ProphetX: Customer cash is member property, held in segregated accounts at ProphetX’s settlement bank.
- Coinbase: Collateral sits in sequestered cleared-swaps customer accounts at Citibank and at Kalshi Klear’s bank. It is not mixed with the broker’s own money.
- Webull: Webull says event contract accounts are not protected by SIPC. Buying power moves automatically from your linked brokerage account.
- Novig: Novig says deposits sit at the clearinghouse as proprietary funds under CFTC rules. Ludlow does not hold them.
- DraftKings Predictions: Cash sits in your DraftKings account and moves to the broker only to cover a trade. CFTC customer-fund rules do not cover money held by the affiliate.
- Fanatics Markets: Deposits are segregated cleared-swaps collateral under CFTC Part 22. They are pooled with other customers’ money, apart from the firm’s own.
- FanDuel Predicts: FanDuel Prediction Markets says it is not FDIC insured or SIPC protected. Predicts money is kept apart from other FanDuel products.
- PrizePicks: Contract money is held as segregated cleared-swaps collateral under CFTC Part 22. That protection ends once money moves to the fantasy account.
- Underdog Predict: Prediction funds sit in your futures account at UDM, apart from fantasy balances, under CFTC segregation rules. UDM holds them at Banc of California.
Are prediction market apps legit?
Yes, when they are CFTC-regulated. Every app here either runs a CFTC-registered exchange or routes orders to one. The CFTC regulates their contracts as derivatives. For sports contracts, several state courts have ruled otherwise.
Regulation does not protect you from losing. A contract that resolves against you settles at $0. Trading responsibly
Are prediction markets legal in every state?
Sports contracts are the contested ones. 17 states have acted against them, and courts have split on whether states may. On September 10, 2026, Connecticut announced orders telling nine apps to stop offering sports contracts, including Polymarket, Coinbase and Robinhood. Missouri's attorney general sent similar letters a week later. Check your state
How to sign up for a prediction market app
- Pick an app from the ranking. Start with how you will fund it and where you live.
- Create an account and verify your identity. US-regulated apps check who you are before you trade.
- Deposit. Use a rail the app supports: bank, card, wire, wallet or crypto.
- Buy Yes or No. The price is the market's probability, and a correct contract pays $1. How contracts work
