Dogecoin Price Slips to $0.0726 as Monero Overtakes DOGE by Market Cap

What is confirmed: the Dogecoin price stood at $0.0726 at midday on Friday, 4.4 percent below the previous day, and Dogecoin has dropped behind Monero by market capitalisation. Our assessment follows further down: losing the ranking is a symptom of the coin's own weakness, and for buyers from November 2025 the main thing that counts over the next five days is a date with the tax office.
On Friday, November 6, 2026, one Dogecoin cost $0.0726 or around 0.0649 euros at midday, according to market data from CoinGecko. The range over the past 24 hours ran from $0.0703 to $0.0760. In the morning DOGE thus tested the zone in which the price was stuck for weeks in July and August.
What is new is a shift in the rankings. Monero has a market value of $11.72 billion, Dogecoin $11.37 billion. That puts the best-known meme coin in 13th place among the largest cryptocurrencies on CoinGecko. On October 20 it was still in 12th place according to our article at the time, and a month ago DOGE was $3.5 billion ahead of Monero by market capitalisation.
Dogecoin price at Friday midday: $0.0726 after a restless night
The day's decline came overnight. DOGE moved roughly in step with Bitcoin: Bitcoin lost 4.5 percent in 24 hours and traded at $76,137 at midday, while Dogecoin lost 4.4 percent. Over 30 days the picture looks different. Bitcoin is 9.2 percent below its level at the start of October, Dogecoin 18.9 percent. The discount to the overall market therefore does not come from a single day; it has built up over weeks.
Trading volume across all venues tracked by CoinGecko came to $836 million over the past 24 hours. That is a busy day for Dogecoin compared with the quiet days in early November, when turnover was sometimes below $300 million. Higher volume in a downward move shows that positions are actually changing hands and that the decline is not just happening in a thin market.
Market capitalisation: Monero has been ahead of Dogecoin since November 4
Market capitalisation is a coin's price multiplied by the number of units in circulation. It says nothing about the quality of a project, but it shows where money in the market is flowing. Dogecoin has one factor that Monero does not have in this form: every day around 14 million new DOGE are created through the fixed reward for miners. The market has to absorb this issuance before the price can rise.
CoinGecko's daily data show how it unfolded. On October 8 Dogecoin stood at $13.90 billion and Monero at $10.42 billion. By October 19 the gap had shrunk to just over $1.1 billion. On November 4 Monero, at $11.85 billion, moved ahead of Dogecoin at $11.77 billion for the first time; on November 5 the two were almost level, and on Friday Monero's lead is around $350 million.
Over 30 days Monero has gained 11.5 percent, while Dogecoin has lost 18.9 percent. If you are interested in the situation of the rival coin, you will find the analysis in our Monero price prediction.
Why Monero is gaining while Dogecoin loses capital
The two coins attract very different buyers. Monero is a cryptocurrency for confidential payments in which sender, recipient and amount remain hidden on the blockchain. The coin pushed against the market in October, while almost all major altcoins fell. Dogecoin, by contrast, relies heavily on retail sentiment and on leveraged positions on derivatives exchanges. In a market where Bitcoin gives up more than 9 percent, that hits Dogecoin disproportionately.
On top of this come the departures among funds. US asset manager Bitwise wound down its DOGE fund in mid-October, and the House of Doge brand agreement ended in the same month. We covered both stories on October 10 and October 25. These reports do not explain any single day, but they do explain why no new group of buyers has emerged in recent weeks to absorb the issuance of new coins and the selling.

Holding period for November 2025 buyers: the anniversary falls in the coming days
This is the point where an investor in Germany can actually decide something this week. Dogecoin reached its twelve-month high on November 11, 2025, at $0.1818. On November 6, 2025, one DOGE cost $0.1615. Anyone who bought in those days is now 55 to 60 percent down. With 10,000 DOGE bought at $0.1818, the paper loss comes to around $1,090.
For private investors in Germany, the holding period under Section 23 of the Income Tax Act applies. A sale within one year of purchase is a private disposal. A gain from it is taxable once all gains of this kind in the year together reach the exemption threshold of 1,000 euros. A loss from such a transaction counts as well, however: it can be offset against gains from other private disposals, for example from Bitcoin or Ethereum, in the same year, the previous year or later years.
After one year a sale is tax-free, and that cuts both ways. A loss after the anniversary has no tax relevance. Anyone who sells DOGE bought on November 11, 2025, only on November 12, 2026, can no longer claim the loss of around 60 percent. Anyone who wants to use it sells at the latest on the day before the anniversary, so as not to risk a dispute over how the deadline is calculated. Anyone who still believes in Dogecoin can buy the coin again afterwards. A new holding period then starts for the new coins.
How to find your purchase date
For multiple purchases, the Federal Ministry of Finance's guidance applies the FIFO method: the coins bought first are deemed to be sold first. Anyone who bought more at lower prices in summer 2025 may therefore be selling those older coins first. The exchange provides the purchase history as an export. A tax tool calculates the holding period for each lot from it; our comparison of crypto tax tools and portfolio trackers gives an overview. Whether the holding period will remain in place is politically open. Our overview of the crypto holding period reform tracks the current state of the debate.
Since our last article: the $0.0710 level barely held
On Thursday evening we analysed the Dogecoin price at its lowest since August. DOGE stood at $0.0727 at the time, and we named $0.0710, $0.0702 and $0.0690 as the levels to the downside. Overnight into Friday the price fell to $0.0703. The first level at $0.0710 was therefore breached and the second at $0.0702 narrowly missed. By midday Dogecoin had recovered to $0.0726, almost exactly where it stood on Thursday evening.
What has changed is the situation in the derivatives market. On Thursday the funding rate on OKX was negative. The funding rate is the fee that holders of perpetual contracts pay each other every eight hours; when it is positive, buyers pay sellers. At midday on Friday it stood at plus 0.0089 percent per settlement for the DOGE contract on OKX. Buyers are therefore paying a small premium again.
Derivatives on OKX: the long ratio falls from 5.49 to 4.95
The ratio of long to short accounts shows how many accounts with an open position are betting on rising prices compared with those betting on falling prices. On OKX it reached 5.49 on Thursday afternoon. At 11 a.m. German time on Friday it stood at 4.95. There are still almost five long accounts for every short account, but some buyers gave up their positions overnight or were liquidated.
The stock of open contracts, the open interest, stood at around 1.26 billion DOGE or $91.7 million at midday. A market in which so many accounts are on the same side is vulnerable to cascades to the downside: if the price falls through a level where many leveraged positions are liquidated, the exchanges force-sell those positions and push the price lower still.
Where a leveraged long would now be liquidated
The liquidation threshold can be roughly estimated: entry price times one minus one over the leverage, plus the exchange's maintenance margin. With an entry at $0.0726 and a maintenance margin of 0.5 percent, it lies around $0.0693 at 20x leverage and around $0.0657 at 10x. The threshold for 20x longs is therefore almost exactly at the yearly low. Anyone trading with leverage should check the actual threshold in the exchange's own position view, as it depends on fees and margin. Providers and fees for such contracts are shown in our comparison of perp exchanges.

US jobs report at 2:30 p.m. German time: the key date for Bitcoin and DOGE
On Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. German time, the US Department of Labor publishes the jobs report for October. According to the figures so far, only 29,000 non-farm jobs were added in September, and the numbers for July and August were revised down by a combined 60,000 jobs. A weak report raises expectations of lower US interest rates; a strong report dampens them.
Dogecoin has no direct link to the US labour market. On days like this, however, the coin follows Bitcoin, and Bitcoin reacts to rate expectations. On Thursday DOGE and Bitcoin fell almost equally within hours when chip stocks slumped on the Nasdaq. For the afternoon this means that the biggest move of the day may still be to come, and it will originate outside the crypto market.
Yearly low at $0.0690: the summer zone lies 5 percent lower
Dogecoin hit its twelve-month low on a daily basis on August 7, 2026, at $0.0690. Between July 24 and August 19, the price swung almost continuously between $0.0690 and $0.0705. This zone is the most important support, meaning a price range in which enough buyers stood ready in the past to halt the decline. From the current price, it lies a good 5 percent lower.
On Friday morning the price already touched this zone at $0.0703 and bounced. If it holds on the next test as well, a three-month double bottom forms. If the price falls below $0.0690 on a daily close, there is no lower level over twelve months for buyers to orient themselves by. The price would then be at its lowest in at least twelve months.
200-day line at $0.0857: the gap widens to 15 percent
The 200-day line is the average of closing prices over the last 200 days and is regarded as a measure of the long-term trend. Calculated from CoinGecko's daily data, it stands at $0.0857 for Dogecoin. The price is thus a good 15 percent below it. In our article of October 27 the gap was 13.9 percent, so it has grown. The 100-day line is at $0.0822 and the 50-day line at $0.0851.
To the upside, the first level is therefore the daily high of $0.0760. Above that comes the 100-day line at $0.0822. Only a price above the 200-day line would formally end the downtrend, and DOGE is a long way from that.
Editorial view: the ranking loss shows the weakness, it does not cause it
In the editorial team's view, the position in the rankings is no reason for concern in itself for the Dogecoin price. No fund and no exchange takes its cue from whether DOGE ranks 12th or 13th. The shift does show, however, how capital has moved over the past 30 days: away from coins whose demand comes mainly from sentiment and leverage. The evidence is the 18.9 percent loss in 30 days against 9.2 percent for Bitcoin, the almost five long accounts per short account on OKX and the 15 percent gap to the 200-day line.
Against this reading is the fact that DOGE did not fall more than Bitcoin on Friday and that the summer zone held in the morning. A bounce there would be a first sign that sellers are losing strength at this point. We do not derive a buy recommendation from this. The price can also fall well below the yearly low, and a total loss can never be ruled out with cryptocurrencies.
Dogecoin at $0.0726: below $0.0690 there is no support left
- Check your purchase date: anyone who bought between early and mid-November 2025 should dig out the purchase records and work out whether selling before the anniversary would produce a loss that can be offset. The holding period per lot is shown by the programs in our comparison of tax tools.
- Choose how you buy: anyone who wants to get back in after selling should buy through an exchange authorised under the EU's MiCA regulation and use a limit order rather than an instant buy. Which providers offer this is shown in our crypto exchange comparison.
- Limit leverage: anyone trading DOGE with leverage should set the liquidation threshold below $0.0690 or refrain from opening new positions before the jobs report. Providers and fees are compared in our overview of the best perp exchanges.
