Binance BTC SAFU transfer

Binance completed a transfer of 7,499 BTC from its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) on October 31, 2026, to replace assets stolen in its recent breach. Whale Alert valued the Bitcoin movement at about $581 million, as the exchange reported that it had replenished around 90% of the amount lost.

Binance’s BTC transfer from SAFU reaches receiving address

The Bitcoin transaction moved funds from Binance’s disclosed SAFU address to a single receiving address. Confirmation came via a block stamped with the time 10:51 a.m. ET.

“SAFU fund transfer is complete,” Binance said, linking to the transaction. SAFU is the exchange’s emergency reserve, which it is using to replace stolen assets.

Mempool.space’s record showed that the receiving address held 7,500 BTC, with no confirmed or pending outgoing transactions.

Asset replenishment reaches 90% after $6.3 billion breach

Binance said its replenishment effort had reached 90% of the lost amount, compared with about 80% previously. The exchange estimated the breach at roughly $6.3 billion and had allocated more than $6.34 billion in company funds to cover it.

The funding combines a partial deployment of SAFU, a portion of Binance’s futures insurance fund and its corporate treasury. According to Binance, following the reallocation, the futures insurance fund still exceeded the minimum coverage level mandated for risk management.

Following the BTC transfer from SAFU, Binance plans to use the reserve to purchase the remaining 10% of outstanding assets. Those acquisitions are continuing through market transactions and over-the-counter trades.

Fully backed assets and the withdrawal reopening plan

Bitcoin and nine other assets were already fully backed, Binance said. The assets still outstanding were less-liquid tokens, which the exchange said take longer to source.

Binance also pledged to restore SAFU to about $1 billion, alongside its effort to replace the assets lost in the breach.

Co-CEO Richard Teng said withdrawal services would stay paused until they passed rigorous testing. He also said Binance would share a full proof-of-reserves report by Monday, with an initial view hopefully available earlier.

In its October 31 update, Binance said it remained on track to reopen withdrawals on Sunday, November 1.
