Three Bank Approvals Put Ripple’s XRP Strategy Under Scrutiny

Dr. Stevenson’s central claim: more regulated digital dollars could create more demand for moving money between currencies. That is an argument for XRP’s potential utility, not evidence that these approvals will generate demand for the token.

National trust banks differ from conventional lenders. The proposed businesses described in the video would focus on custody and stablecoin reserves rather than checking accounts and loans, bringing those activities under federal supervision.

Agora plans to move reserves backing its AUSD stablecoin into a new bank, the host says. Bastion provides infrastructure for companies issuing branded stablecoins, while Catena plans to support payment stablecoins compliant with the GENIUS Act.

The economics help explain the interest. She illustrates that $1 billion in reserves earning 4% would produce roughly $40 million annually, before expenses. Bringing reserve management in-house could let issuers retain more revenue and reduce reliance on outside providers.

Kamilah Stevenson contrasts those stablecoin-focused businesses with Ripple’s combination of payments, custody, prime brokerage and corporate treasury services.

The episode highlights their acquisitions of Metaco, Hidden Road and GTreasury, alongside the XRP Ledger and Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.

“A dollar stable coin cannot do that itself,” the host says of converting value between different national currencies. The argument is that XRP can serve as an intermediary, while dollar-backed tokens still require access to foreign-exchange liquidity.

That distinction matters, but it leaves a commercial question unanswered: whether institutions will choose XRP for those conversions. More stablecoin issuance does not, by itself, establish that XRP will capture the resulting payment flows.

The concrete milestones are final charter approvals, actual bank launches and the services customers adopt. Ripple’s operating expansion and XRP’s investment performance remain separate questions; evidence of token usage would be more meaningful than another conditional banking approval.
