Osmosis v32 Upgrade Set for October 27: What Changes for OSMO Holders?

The Osmosis v32 upgrade is scheduled for October 27, 2026. A separate Osmosis vote could also end new OSMO issuance. The upgrade does two main things.

It moves frozen Alloyed BTC to restore its backing, and it clears stuck ProtoRev tokens so they can be swapped for OSMO token and burned. Both changes matter to holders, stakers, and validators, because they touch supply, rewards, and network uptime.

At a Glance

  • Upgrade: Osmosis v32.0.0 (Prop 1054)

  • Target date and time: October 27, 2026, 15:00 UTC

  • Block height: 73,304,000

  • Prop 1053: Ends new OSMO emissions, pending its vote result

  • allBTC recovery: 22.65060846 allBTC to the Liquidity SubDAO

  • ProtoRev cleanup: About $50,000 in stuck tokens, swapped to OSMO and burned

  • Expected downtime: About 15 minutes

Both proposals depend on their own governance results and on a smooth rollout.

Osmosis v32 Upgrade: What Changes on October 27?

Proposal 1054 targets block 73,304,000. Block times vary, so the exact time may shift. On-chain activity pauses during the upgrade, which should last about 15 minutes. The release also includes fixes meant to improve network stability.

OSMO Inflation Proposal 1053: How Will Staking Rewards Change?

Proposal 1053 would cut new OSMO minted per day from 91,324 to zero. It does this by setting the mint module’s start epoch to 100,000,000, which the chain will not reach in practice. Staking rewards would then come only from protocol revenue, such as taker fees and transaction fees.

The mint module still distributes about 121,766 OSMO per day. Most of that never reaches circulation. Staking rewards get about 9,740, developer vesting about 30,440, and the community pool about 81,580. Only about 40,000 OSMO per day enters circulating supply.

The roughly 2 percentage points of staking APR from issuance would end. The proposal says a larger taker fee share from Proposal 1052 could add about 1.7% APR. Actual rewards can vary and are not guaranteed.

The developer vesting balance of about 51.9 million tokens was minted at genesis. It stays in its module account unless governance releases it later. The latest snapshot showed 88.03% Yes with 62.82% turnout, but the final result should be checked before you rely on it.

Alloyed BTC Recovery: Where Will the Frozen Tokens Go?

Under Proposal 1044, 22.65060846 allBTC frozen on the exploiter’s account moves to the Liquidity SubDAO at the upgrade height. Its purpose is to restore Alloyed BTC’s backing.

There are clear limits:

  • Only the authorized allBTC amount moves.

  • The account’s OSMO stays in place.

  • The step runs on osmosis-1 only.

  • It is not a general recovery of every asset tied to the exploit.

ProtoRev Token Recovery: How Could the OSMO Burn Affect Supply?

ProtoRev pays out its profits daily, but only in base denoms. Profits in other tokens pile up in the module account with no way out. About 84 tokens have built up this way, worth roughly $50,000, mostly TIA (Celestia), AKT, and ETH.

The upgrade sends these balances to the Liquidity SubDAO, which will swap them to tokens and burn it. Base denom balances keep their normal daily payout. If one token cannot be moved, the upgrade skips it and carries on.

The burn will depend on which tokens transfer and on the prices at swap time. A burn of this size is small, so it should not be read as a driver of OSMO crypto market price.

Osmosis Governance Timeline

  • Oct 20, 2026: Proposal 1053 voting begins.

  • Oct 25, 23:06 UTC: Proposal 1053 voting ends.

  • Oct 27: Proposal 1054 voting ends. The Osmosis X post says 09:02 UTC, while Mintscan lists 14:32 UTC.

  • Oct 27, 15:00 UTC: Target time for the v32 upgrade.

The two end times for Proposal 1054 differ, so check the official governance page for the exact figure.

Conclusion

The v32 bundles an allBTC recovery, a ProtoRev cleanup, and stability fixes into one upgrade. Proposal 1053 is a separate but related change that would move staking rewards to a revenue-only model.

Holders should follow official governance updates and watch the network around the upgrade window. Outcomes can change, so avoid treating any figure here as a promise.
