How Will U.S. Midterm Election Results Impact Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP

The U.S. Midterm Election is one day away, and crypto traders are on edge. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP could all feel the impact if control of Congress changes.
Bitcoin trades near $78,100, up 0.20% in the last 24 hours. Still, it lost 7.32% in October and remains under pressure.
October also killed "Uptober," so many traders now hope "Moonvember" can fix things. Whether November delivers that bounce is still unclear.
Bitcoin History Shows Pain After Midterm Votes
As Chart analyst Ali Martinez notes, Bitcoin's record after past midterms is hard to ignore. After the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 elections, BTC fell 72%, 65%, 52%, and 27%, respectively.
That does not prove the elections caused those drops. But the pattern is worth watching.
Q4 numbers look similar. Bitcoin gained 391% in Q4 2010, then lost 16.70% in Q4 2014, 42.16% in Q4 2018, and 14.75% in Q4 2022.
Midterm Year | BTC Drop After Election | BTC Q4 Return |
2010 | 72% | +391% |
2014 | 65% | -16.70% |
2018 | 52% | -42.16% |
2022 | 27% | -14.75% |

Analyst Warns of 30% Drop Toward $57,000
Chart analyst Ali Martinez expects another decline. He sees a possible correction of around 30%.
If that happens, the $57,000 level could come back into focus. Bitcoin is already down 7.3% ahead of the November 3 vote, so seasonality points to volatility.
Still, the sample is small. Four cycles cannot guarantee anything.
Ethereum Setup Hinges on $3,000 Neckline
One analyst sees an inverse head and shoulders pattern forming on the ETH chart. The neckline sits near $3,000.
A pattern is only a view. It weakens if ETH loses the right shoulder zone.
Level | Why It Matters |
$2,200 to $2,300 | Right shoulder zone to hold |
$2,800 to $3,000 | Neckline area to reclaim |
$3,400 | First breakout target |
$3,600 | Second breakout target |
XRP Record After Midterms Looks Mixed
XRP's Q4 midterm returns are uneven. It jumped 423.1% in 2014, then fell 39.4% in 2018 and 29.3% in 2022.
Analyst Egrag Crypto also checked what came after the vote. XRP averaged -6.8% in Q1 and +20.1% in Q2. Together, that is about 0% compounded.
Bitcoin did far better in the same window.
Period After Midterms | XRP Average | BTC Average |
Q1 | -6.8% | +19.7% |
Q2 | +20.1% | +59.7% |
H1 (compounded) | About 0% | +86.5% |
His view is simple. Bitcoin may lead any recovery first, and money could rotate into XRP and altcoins later. He also stresses that only three cycles exist.
Why a Change in Congress Could Move Crypto
The vote will decide control of the House and Senate. That also decides who leads key financial committees and shapes crypto laws.
The CLARITY Act shows the stakes. It failed in the Senate on September 15, with 50 votes in favor and 49 against. The bill needed 60 to move forward.
A Republican-controlled Congress could bring back support for clearer rules. The results may also affect oversight by the SEC and CFTC.
Money is part of the story too. A Public Citizen report says the crypto industry has spent more than $206 million on the 2026 midterms.
Will Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP Rally After the Vote?
Nobody knows yet. History leans cautious for Bitcoin in the short term, while XRP's record is mixed.
Bitcoin needs to hold current levels to avoid a slide toward $57,000. Ethereum needs to defend $2,200 to $2,300 and then reclaim $2,800 to $3,000.
For 2027, Bitcoin has shown stronger recoveries than XRP after past midterms. As always, price action has the final word.
