DeFi TVL Falls to $88B as Morpho Gains While Lido and Aave Lose Liquidity

Decentralized finance is losing liquidity again, with total value locked falling to roughly $88 billion on October 27.
According to DefiLlama, DeFi TVL is down around 2.5% over the past week, with Ethereum, Lido and Aave accounting for a large share of the decline.
At the same time, Morpho continues to move in the opposite direction.
Morpho Gains While the Broader Market Shrinks
Morpho added roughly $304 million in TVL over the past week, taking total value locked to around $11.4 billion, according to DefiLlama.
That represents growth of about 2.7% while most major protocols are losing liquidity.
The divergence suggests that capital is not simply leaving DeFi altogether. Instead, some users appear to be reallocating funds toward lending platforms offering different risk structures and vault strategies.
Lido and Aave See Outflows
Lido remains the largest DeFi protocol, with roughly $22.4 billion in TVL, but its liquidity has fallen more than 3% over the past week.
Aave has also weakened.
DefiLlama data shows Aave TVL falling from around $19.1 billion at the end of September to roughly $17.4 billion on October 27.
The broader decline reflects both asset-price weakness and actual capital leaving major DeFi protocols.
Ethereum DeFi Takes a Hit
Ethereum remains the largest DeFi ecosystem, but its TVL has fallen by roughly $1.2 billion over the past week, according to DefiLlama.
Total Ethereum DeFi TVL now sits near $48.4 billion.
That matters because Ethereum still represents more than half of all capital locked across decentralized finance.
When Ethereum-based protocols lose liquidity, the impact is visible across the entire sector.
Aave V4 Is Still Growing
There is one important exception inside the Aave ecosystem.
Aave V4 has continued to grow despite weakness in the broader protocol.
DefiLlama shows Aave V4 TVL at approximately $704 million, close to its all-time high.
That compares with only around $2.6 million at the end of March.
The rapid growth suggests users are gradually adopting Aave’s newer architecture even as total liquidity across the wider Aave ecosystem declines.
Trading Activity Is Cooling
DeFi trading volumes are also weakening.
DefiLlama reports around $44 billion in DEX volume over the past seven days, down roughly 12% week over week.
Perpetual futures volume is also lower, falling around 8% over the same period.
Lower trading activity typically reduces fees for decentralized exchanges and can signal weaker speculative demand across the market.
What Comes Next for DeFi?
Three factors are worth watching:
Ethereum prices: Falling ETH prices reduce the dollar value of assets locked in DeFi.
Lending flows: Continued growth at Morpho or Aave V4 could indicate that users are rotating capital rather than exiting the sector.
Stablecoin liquidity: Stablecoins remain critical collateral for lending, trading and liquidity pools.
The current decline does not look like a collapse in DeFi.
Instead, the market appears to be becoming more selective.
Liquidity is leaving some of the largest protocols while platforms such as Morpho and Aave V4 continue to attract capital.
That redistribution could become one of the most important DeFi trends heading into the final months of 2026.
