The Isle of the 0xdead

An audiovisual ritual for mourning digital loss, on the blockchain. A place to say a last "gn" and let go, forever. Since 1880, Arnold Böcklin's "Isle of the Dead" ("Die Toteninsel") has become one of the most seminal paintings in history, haunting countless artists to make their own artworks inspired by it. This series continues the legacy through meticulously handcrafted pixel art, homegrown soundscaping loops and creative coding. It pays a tribute to some of the artists who have contributed their own version to the history of the Isle (Hayao Miyazaki 宮﨑 駿, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, H.R. Giger, Philippe Caza, Jean Giraud AKA Moebius, Ferdinand Keller, Philippe Druillet, Andrés Del Vecchio) as well as nods to XCOPY's digital piece "All Time High In The City", Ustad Ahmad Lahauri उस्ताद अहमद लाहौरी's Taj Mahal ताजमहल mausoleum, and Jæn's digital artwork "City of the dEaD", part of his "0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD" artwork and performance.
