Puffer Token: Restaking and Korea's New Interest

Why Upbit’s KRW Listing Put Puffer Token in Focus

Puffer is an Ethereum liquid restaking project that lets people join staking without running their own validator. Its token, the Puffer Token (PUFFER), gives holders a vote on how the project changes.

On October 15, 2026, Upbit opened a Korean won market for PUFFER, and the price swung hard within hours.

This article covers what Puffer does, what the token is for, and what the listing changed. The basics of ETH staking are in these Ethereum staking basics. Prices here are dated snapshots, last checked on October 29, 2026.

Quick answer: PUFFER is the token people use to vote on how Puffer is run. pufETH is something else: it shows how much ETH a person has deposited.

When Upbit opened a new market for the Puffer Token on October 15, 2026, the price hit 118 won. Korean traders got an easier way to buy, but a single busy day does not tell us whether interest will last.

What Is Puffer Finance, and How Does Its Ethereum Restaking Work?

Ethereum is secured by validators, which are computers that lock up ETH to approve transactions and earn rewards. Running one alone takes 32 ETH.

Puffer’s documentation describes another route. Operators post a bond of 2 ETH, or 1 ETH if they use anti-slashing hardware, and lock at least 28 validator tickets.

Each ticket pays for one day of running a validator. Depositors’ ETH covers the rest of the 32. These rules belong to Puffer, not to every Ethereum validator.

Restaking lets the same staked ETH-help secure other services, such as those built on EigenLayer.

That adds risks like penalties and smart contract bugs, and extra rewards are not guaranteed. A user who deposits ETH into Puffer receives pufETH, a receipt token for that deposit. For the wider ETH picture, see this Ethereum price forecast.

What Does the PUFFER Token Do Inside the Puffer Ecosystem Today?

The Puffer Token is the governance token for the Puffer Protocol and UniFi, the products laid out on Puffer’s introduction page. Holders vote on changes such as fees, limits, and which services the protocol supports.

Voting runs through VLPUFFER. A holder locks PUFFER for a time of their choice, from 30 days up to two years, and gets PUFFER in return.

The longer the lock, the bigger the multiplier, so a two-year lock gives a 24x boost. The token cannot be moved to another wallet, and the original PUFFER comes back once the lock ends.

The Puffer Token gives holders a say in the project. It does not stand for ownership of deposited ETH, income, or any price promise.

PUFFER Supply and Allocation: What the Published Tokenomics Show

The Puffer Token has a fixed maximum supply of 1,000,000,000. About 102,300,000 tokens (10.23%) circulated at launch in October 2024.

PUFFER Token Unlocks: When Locked Supply Can Reach the Market

Vesting is a release schedule for tokens. A cliff is a waiting period, so nothing unlocks until a set date. After that, tokens come out bit by bit.

Per Puffer’s token documentation, investors wait one year, and early contributors wait one year as well. Both groups then receive their tokens over time.

Supply numbers differ between trackers. Some count tokens released under the schedule; others estimate what truly circulates.

One tracker showed about 484 million PUFFER at one time and about 507 million at another. This article sticks to the launch figure on the official Puffer website.

FDV counts every token, while market cap counts only circulating ones, so FDV is higher at the same price.

An unlock only adds tokens that could be sold. Whether prices fall depends on who sells and how strong demand is, as the PUFFER Upbit rally report shows.

PufETH Versus PUFFER: Two Tokens That Are Very Easy to Confuse

  • Puffer: the project and protocol.

  • PUFFER: the governance token used for voting.

  • pufETH: the receipt token given for deposited ETH.

pufETH is built to gain value against ETH as rewards build up. Its price can drift away from ETH, and rewards are not guaranteed.

Puffer also builds UniFi, a rollup project. Its mainnet status should be checked in Puffer’s official documentation.

What Really Happened When Upbit Opened the PUFFER/KRW Market?

Upbit’s notice set trading to start at 14:00 KST on October 15, 2026, with deposits and withdrawals on the Ethereum network only.

Tight limits are applied at the open to cool volatility. The KRW pair lets users trade PUFFER directly against the Korean won. This was also covered in an earlier PUFFER Upbit rally report.

Reports put the opening matched price at 93 won. Upbit’s market data shows a high of 118 won, a gain of about 26.88% (25 won divided by 93 won). That figure starts from the matched price. Before the open, the reference price was nearer 35 won.

A won-price tracker then showed roughly 75 won at 3:42 pm KST, about 36% below the high.

Reports also put the pair’s trading at around 6 billion won. These are time-specific readings, not a lasting trend. For the Puffer Token, the listing meant easier access, not new fundamentals.

Restaking can add rewards, but it also brings more risks.

  • Contract risk: A flaw in Puffer’s smart contracts could put deposited ETH in danger.

  • Penalty risk: Operators who break the rules or go offline can lose part of their funds.

  • Price risk: When markets get rough, pufETH can trade for less than the ETH behind it.

  • Market risk: The Puffer Token follows trading demand, not the amount of ETH people deposit.

What the Data Says: Strong Signals, Open Questions, and Risks

The Puffer Token has a defined role in governance and a capped supply, but neither fact proves that demand will hold up.

Unlocks are the bigger concern. Just about a tenth of all tokens were circulating at launch, which leaves a large share still to come.

Some answers are still missing. It is unclear how many tokens trade today, and it is unclear how busy the won market stays once the excitement around new coin listings dies down after day one. UniFi, Puffer’s Ethereum rollup project, also has no firm date.

Conclusion: Where Puffer Stands After the Korean Listing Spike

Puffer lets people restake ETH and get pufETH in return, and the PUFFER token gives holders a vote on the project through vePUFFER.

The Korean listing made the token easier to reach, yet the early jump faded within hours. The Puffer Token deserves a closer look, starting with official supply data and how trading volume holds up in the days ahead.
