In Brief:
-
XRP Ledger agentic payments have surpassed 13 million transactions, with 168 registered merchants supporting automated settlements using XRP and RLUSD.
-
Former Ripple executive Chandler Fang expects wider merchant adoption as AI agents expand payments for computing resources and digital services.

RippleX is developing secure smart wallets, verifiable identities, and spending controls to support automated transactions with three-to-five-second settlement times.
Former Ripple product lead Chandler Fang expects merchant adoption to drive XRP Ledger agentic payments beyond their milestone of 13 million transactions. According to Fang, transaction volumes have grown from approximately one million in July, reflecting increased automated payment use.
The t54ai cofounder shared the assessment in response to RippleX engineering head J.A. Akinyele on X, who confirmed that agentic payments had surpassed his earlier projection of 10 million transactions.
XRP Ledger has processed 13,489,468 agentic transactions across 168 registered x402 merchants, settling 6,982.32 XRP and 12,009.98 RLUSD, with Akinyele projecting that transaction volumes could reach 100 million earlier than expected.

Merchant Adoption Shapes Next Phase of XRPL Payments
Fang identified wider merchant integration as the next development for automated payments using XRP and Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. He expects additional businesses and digital services to accept payments initiated by AI agents through the XRPL x402 facilitator.
This infrastructure allows software agents to pay for services directly, reducing manual checkout. Existing applications include payments for programming interfaces, digital information, and computing resources.
Developers are also building tools that connect these payment functions with products for autonomous agents. Fang’s outlook centers on expanding practical payment destinations beyond transaction volume.
RippleX Details Safeguards for Automated Transactions
At XRP Seoul 2026 on October 3, Akinyele outlined infrastructure supporting payments between digital systems. He reported that agentic payments account for approximately 25% of activity on the XRP Ledger.
Ripple’s development plans for the growing sector include verifiable identities, transaction permissions, and spending limits for agents handling digital assets. The proposed safeguards aim to control which transactions agents can execute and how much they can spend.
Proposed secure smart wallets would hold XRP and stablecoins while applying these rules to automated transactions. Akinyele also highlighted settlement times of three to five seconds for XRPL payments.
Together, the merchant figures and infrastructure plans show how RippleX is preparing for wider use of agentic payments. Fang’s next growth phase depends on more merchants connecting services to the network’s automated settlement tools.
