What to Know

  • Galaxy Research reported that 28.46 BTC worth $2.43 million moved toward Kraken following approximately 15.2 years of inactivity since 2011.
  • Tracking data recorded approximately 582,198% gains for the Bitcoin holdings acquired when the cryptocurrency traded at roughly $15 per coin.
  • Bitcoin fell 3.68% to $83,081 as cryptocurrency market liquidations reached $607.18 million while investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes.

A Bitcoin address holding 28.46 BTC since June 2011 moved the coins in a transaction worth approximately $2.43 million. According to Galaxy Research’s tracking details shared on X, the holdings moved in block 970281, having remained untouched since June 12, 2011, approximately 15.2 years earlier.

The transaction involved address 1EmiMJfyBYNYfeFZWEoXxJ9cZ7pF9xTWVt, while the tracking database attributed Kraken as the recipient. That attribution suggested the funds may have moved to the cryptocurrency exchange, according to the reported transaction details.

Bitcoin traded at approximately $15 per coin when the owner acquired the holdings, according to the tracking data. The report placed the long-held balance’s gain at approximately 582,198%, alongside its reported valuation of $2.43 million.

Galaxy tracked the movement through unspent transaction outputs, commonly called UTXOs, which had remained untouched since their original receipt. UTXOs represent specific Bitcoin amounts that an address has received but has not spent in another transaction.

The coins date to Bitcoin’s early years, shortly beyond the period when Satoshi Nakamoto remained active within the community. Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator participated during 2010 and early 2011 before departing from the project in April 2011. Nakamoto’s final email stated, “I’ve moved on to other things,” leaving the project in the hands of core developers.

Bitcoin Falls for Third Day as Market Liquidations Reach $607 Million

The dormant holdings moved during a declining cryptocurrency market, with Bitcoin recording losses during Wednesday’s trading session. At the time of the report, Bitcoin traded at $83,081, representing a 3.68% decline over 24 hours.

Earlier Wednesday, Bitcoin reached a low of $82,787, extending its retreat from the October 5 high of $86,999. The decline marked the cryptocurrency’s third consecutive day of losses as investors anticipated economic releases.

Across cryptocurrency markets, liquidations totaled $607.18 million, with long positions accounting for $541.14 million of the reported total. Short positions contributed another $66.22 million, placing most liquidations among traders holding bullish positions during the decline.

Meanwhile, investors awaited Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes, scheduled for release Wednesday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Market participants planned to assess the minutes for details about the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decisions.

At September’s meeting, policymakers voted to raise interest rates for the first time since 2023, according to the report. Traders priced a 78% probability that the Federal Reserve would leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting. Galaxy’s update recorded 28.46 BTC moving in block 970281, with tracking data attributing Kraken as the recipient.
