Last Updated: October 19, 2026
Ethereum traded near $2,400 on October 19, 2026, according to CoinGecko, down about 19% since January 1 and 51% below its August 2025 record of $4,946. Our base case puts ETH at $2,100 to $2,800 at the end of 2026, centered near $2,450, with a bull case of $3,000 to $3,400 and a bear case of $1,600 to $1,900. Standard Chartered’s year-end target of $4,000, cut from $7,500 in February, would require a 67% rally in about ten weeks.
The May version of this forecast leaned on three catalysts for 2026: the Glamsterdam upgrade, staking ETFs and an institutional rotation from Bitcoin into Ether. None has moved the price yet. Glamsterdam has reached public testnets but still has no mainnet date, staking ETFs exist but spot Ether ETFs have just posted a third straight week of outflows, and ETH fell to about $1,506 in June before recovering. The algorithmic models that update daily now place ETH at about $2,390 to $2,415 at the end of December, close to the current price, while traders on Kalshi price about a 17% chance that ETH trades above $3,500 before the year is out.
What Is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a public blockchain for smart contracts, the programs behind decentralized exchanges, lending markets, stablecoins and tokenized funds. It was proposed by Vitalik Buterin and launched on July 30, 2015, with ether (ETH) as the asset that pays for transactions and secures the network. Protocols such as Aave, Uniswap and Lido run on it, and tokenized money market funds, including BlackRock’s BUIDL, are issued on it.
Since the Merge in September 2022, Ethereum has run on proof of stake. About 43.7 million ETH, or 35.8% of the supply, is staked across roughly 830,000 validators, and staking currently yields about 2.6% a year, according to validatorqueue.com. Running a validator alone requires 32 ETH, while liquid staking protocols such as Lido and Rocket Pool accept smaller amounts.
Most transactions now happen on layer-2 networks such as Base, Arbitrum and Optimism, which settle to Ethereum. That has made the main network cheap to use but has also cut the fees Ethereum burns, which matters for the supply story below.
The official Ethereum Foundation and ethereum.org provide current documentation on the protocol, upgrades and staking.

Ethereum Price History: Key Cycle Analysis
Ether sold for about $0.31 in its 2014 crowd sale and traded near $1,430 at the January 2018 peak, before the bear market took it to about $80 in December 2018. The next cycle lifted ETH to about $4,880 in November 2021, a record that held for almost four years. The 2022 crash, from Terra’s collapse in May to FTX’s in November, took ETH below $900 at its June low, and the Merge, completed in September 2022, switched the network to proof of stake. US spot Ether ETFs began trading in July 2024.
2025 brought both extremes. ETH opened the year at about $3,338, fell to $1,385 on April 9 during the tariff sell-off, then rallied on ETF inflows and corporate treasury buying to a new record on August 24, 2025: $4,946.05 on CoinGecko and $4,953.73 on CoinMarketCap. It could not hold that level and closed the year at about $2,972, down roughly 11%.
2026 has been weaker still. ETH started the year near $2,972, peaked at about $3,403 on January 14 and slid to about $1,506 on June 6, a 56% drop from the January high. It has since recovered to about $2,400, roughly 59% above the June low but still 29% below the year’s high.
How Did 2025 Ethereum Predictions Hold Up?
ETH did set a record in 2025, so the bullish thesis of ETF demand and treasury buying worked for a while. But almost every published year-end target was too high, and the year ended below where it started.
| Forecast | Published | Prediction | What Happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tom Lee (Fundstrat) | July 2025 | $15,000 by the end of 2025 | Closed 2025 at $2,972, 80% lower |
| Standard Chartered | August 13, 2025 | $7,500 by the end of 2025 | Closed 2025 at $2,972, 60% lower |
| Bitwise | December 10, 2024 | $7,000 in 2025 | Peaked at $4,946 in August; closed 58% below the target |
| Galaxy | December 2024 | Above $5,500 in 2025 | Peaked at $4,946; target missed |
| Finder panel | October 2025 | $5,034 by the end of 2025 | Closed 2025 at $2,972, 41% lower |
| Citi | October 2, 2025 | $4,500 by the end of 2025 | Closed 2025 at $2,972, 34% lower |
| Standard Chartered (earlier call) | March 17, 2025 | $4,000 by the end of 2025 | Closed 2025 at $2,972, 26% lower |
The pattern is clear. The most aggressive targets, set when ETH was rallying, missed by the widest margins, and the most accurate call was the cautious one Standard Chartered made in March, before it raised its target in August. The same bank’s current $4,000 target for 2026 was set after another cut, which is worth keeping in mind when reading the forecasts below.
The Gas Fee Crisis: Ethereum’s 2026 Structural Challenge
Cheap transactions are good for users and bad for ETH’s supply. The Fusaka upgrade, activated on December 3, 2025, introduced PeerDAS and, through two follow-up forks, raised the blob target and maximum to 14 and 21 per block by January 7, 2026, giving layer-2 networks far more cheap data space. The mainnet gas limit now stands at 60 million. Our report on Fusaka’s activation covers the details.
The side effect is a near-collapse in the fee burn. From January 1 to October 9, 2026, the network issued about 796,600 ETH to stakers and burned only about 16,500 ETH in fees, so net supply grew by about 778,000 ETH, an annualized inflation rate of roughly 0.8%. Total supply stands near 122.1 million ETH, about 1.6 million more than at the Merge. The “ultrasound money” argument that helped ETH in 2022 and 2023 does not apply in 2026, and any price forecast now has to rely on demand rather than shrinking supply.
The Glamsterdam Upgrade: ETH’s Next Major Catalyst
Glamsterdam is Ethereum’s next hard fork. Its headline changes are enshrined proposer-builder separation (EIP-7732) and block-level access lists (EIP-7928), which allow parallel transaction execution, along with a set of gas repricings. On the Hoodi test network, the gas limit is set to rise to 200 million, against 60 million on mainnet today.
The upgrade went live on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, and the Hoodi fork is scheduled for October 26 at 17:42 UTC. The Ethereum Foundation’s Hoodi announcement says the mainnet activation date has not been decided; the fourth quarter of 2026 is a planning window, not a scheduled date. The May version of this page expected Glamsterdam in the first half of 2026, so the delay is itself part of why the catalyst has not lifted the price. Our report on Glamsterdam’s final testing phase explains the two headline changes.
Staking ETFs: The Institutional Catalyst for 2026
Staking inside US funds is now a reality. Grayscale’s Ether funds and 21Shares’ TETH have staked since October 2025, BlackRock’s staked Ether ETF (ETHB) began trading on Nasdaq on March 12, 2026, and Fidelity’s FETH began staking in late August 2026. BlackRock’s larger ETHA fund does not stake. Brokers are following: Interactive Brokers opened Ethereum staking to eligible clients on October 13.
The flows have not followed the product launches. US spot Ether ETFs lost about $320 million in the week to October 16, their third straight weekly outflow, according to SoSoValue data. Total net assets stand at about $14.95 billion, or 5.1% of ETH’s market capitalization, and cumulative net inflows at about $12.94 billion; October alone has seen about $955 million of outflows. Our report on Ether ETF outflows has the fund-by-fund numbers.
The other institutional buyer is close to stopping. BitMine, the largest corporate ETH holder, owned 6,041,481 ETH as of October 18, about 4.9% of supply, with more than 5 million ETH staked. Chairman Tom Lee has said the company will stop buying at 5% of supply, which leaves room for only about 66,000 more ETH, roughly five weeks at its recent pace of about 12,500 ETH a week. Our report on BitMine’s 5% cap covers the decision.
Ethereum Price Predictions Compared: Banks, Analysts, Models and Prediction Markets
Ethereum forecasts differ because their authors measure different things. Bank research desks model fund flows and adoption, individual analysts publish conditional or long-range scenarios, algorithmic sites extrapolate from price history, and prediction markets show what traders will pay for an outcome. The “price prediction” pages of Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and Bitget apply a default growth rate of 5% a year, so they are calculators rather than forecasts. The table lists the main published figures as of October 19, 2026.
| Source | Type | End of 2026 | 2030 | Published |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Chartered | Bank research | $4,000 | $40,000 | February 12, 2026 (restated October 3) |
| Citi | Bank research | $3,028 (12-month target) | Not published | September 30, 2026 |
| Tom Lee (Fundstrat, BitMine) | Analyst scenario | About $6,000, if Bitcoin reaches $150,000 | Not published | August 2026 |
| Arthur Hayes | Investor essay | $10,000 | Not published | September 2026 |
| 21Shares | Asset manager outlook | $3,400 to $3,700 (base case for the 2026 peak) | Not published | January 19, 2026 |
| Finder panel (21 specialists) | Expert survey | $5,026 average | $11,712 | January 2026 |
| CoinCodex | Algorithmic model | $2,366 to $2,412 (average $2,393) | $4,596 to $4,705 (average $4,630) | October 19, 2026 |
| Changelly | Technical analysis | $2,201 to $2,587 (average $2,415) | $3,044 to $5,245 (average $4,230) | October 19, 2026 |
| Telegaon | Scenario model | $2,100 to $4,150 (base $3,050) | $7,200 to $12,000 (base $9,850) | September 16, 2026 |
| CoinLore | Technical model | $3,370 | $5,278 | October 18, 2026 |
| Gate | Historical data model | $2,040 to $2,496 (average $2,400) | $3,473 to $4,424 (average $3,656) | Not dated |
| PricePredictions.com | Technical indicators | Not published | $3,313 to $8,571 (mid $5,378) | October 14, 2026 |
| Kalshi | Prediction market | 17% chance ETH trades above $3,500 before December 31; 8% above $4,000 | Not available | October 19, 2026 |
| Polymarket | Prediction market | 33.5% chance ETH reaches $3,000; 33.5% chance it dips to $2,000 | Not available | October 19, 2026 |
Three things stand out. First, the models that update daily sit almost exactly at the current price for year-end: CoinCodex, Changelly and Gate all average about $2,390 to $2,415. Second, the named forecasters are far more bullish, and their track record is the reason to discount them: Standard Chartered’s $4,000 needs a 67% rally, while Kalshi and Polymarket price only a 7% to 8% chance that ETH even touches $4,000 this year. Third, the long-range spread is enormous, from about $3,000 to $40,000 for 2030.
How to judge an Ethereum forecast: a reliable one is dated, states its method, has been updated after big price moves, and comes from a source whose past calls can be checked. By that test, the bank targets that are restated and revised in public, such as Standard Chartered’s and Citi’s, are more useful than undated “ETH to $100,000” claims, and prediction markets are the best gauge of what traders actually expect over the next few weeks. Tom Lee’s longer-term views are covered in our explainer on why Tom Lee is so bullish on Ethereum.
Ethereum Price Prediction by Year
Forecasts below combine our 2026 scenarios with third-party models for later years. Not financial advice.
| Year | Bear Case | Base Case | Bull Case |
|---|---|---|---|
| End of 2026 | $1,600 to $1,900 | $2,100 to $2,800 | $3,000 to $3,400 |
| 2027 | $1,640 | $3,293 | $6,400 |
| 2028 | $2,065 | $4,177 | $8,100 |
| 2029 | $2,418 | $4,384 | $9,700 |
| 2030 | $3,044 | $4,954 | $12,000 |
| 2035 | $5,563 | $6,804 | $24,000 |
| 2040 | $7,001 | $8,238 | $40,000 |
How this table is built: the 2026 row is our own scenario analysis, based on current chart levels, fund flows and prediction-market odds. Rows for 2027 to 2040 summarize six forecasting models (CoinCodex, Changelly, CoinLore, Telegaon, Gate and PricePredictions.com; four publish 2035 figures and three publish 2040 figures) as of October 19, 2026. The bear case is the lowest published low, the base case is the median of their average or base-case figures, and the bull case is the highest published high. Standard Chartered’s targets ($4,000 for 2026, $10,000 for 2027, $18,000 for 2028, $28,000 for 2029 and $40,000 for 2030) are listed separately. Speculative, not financial advice.
ETH Price Prediction 2026
With about ten weeks left in the year, ETH trades near $2,400. The first support is about $2,325, the October 15 low, followed by the round $2,000 level, which Polymarket traders give a 33.5% chance of revisiting before year-end. Above the price, $2,500 is the level ETH lost after the October 14 CPI report and $2,575 is the October 12 high; beyond that, $3,000 is the next round number and $3,403 the January high.
The calendar matters for the next few weeks. Glamsterdam forks the Hoodi testnet on October 26, the Federal Reserve announces its rate decision on October 28, BitMine’s weekly updates will show when it reaches its 5% cap, and daily ETF flows will show whether the three-week outflow streak extends. A mainnet date for Glamsterdam, if developers set one, would be the most important ETH-specific news of the quarter.
Bear case ($1,600 to $1,900, down 21% to 33%): ETF outflows continue, BitMine stops buying, and ETH loses $2,000, opening a retest of the June low near $1,506. Kalshi traders put about a 15% chance on ETH dropping below $1,500 at some point this year, and Polymarket about 19% on a dip to $1,750.
Base case ($2,100 to $2,800, centered near $2,450): ETF flows stabilize, Glamsterdam keeps progressing on testnets without a firm mainnet date, and ETH ranges around current levels. This matches the year-end averages from CoinCodex ($2,393), Changelly ($2,415) and Gate ($2,400), and Citi’s 12-month target of $3,028 points to only gradual gains.
Bull case ($3,000 to $3,400, up 25% to 42%): A mainnet date for Glamsterdam, a return to ETF inflows and a broader crypto rebound lift ETH back above $3,000, with the top of the range retesting the January high. Polymarket prices a 33.5% chance that ETH reaches $3,000 before the end of the year.
What about the bigger targets? Standard Chartered’s $4,000 requires a 67% rally, Tom Lee’s roughly $6,000 assumes Bitcoin at $150,000 and an ETH/BTC ratio of 0.04 against about 0.029 today, and Arthur Hayes’s $10,000 would need ETH to more than quadruple. Prediction markets price a new all-time high in 2026 at about 4.5%.
ETH Price Prediction 2027
For 2027, the median of the six forecasting models is about $3,293, with a range from $1,640 in Gate’s low case to $6,400 in Telegaon’s bull case. Standard Chartered cut its 2027 target to $10,000 from $15,000 in February, which would value ETH at about $1.22 trillion at today’s supply.
Will ETH break its all-time high in 2027? A new record above $4,946 requires a gain of about 106% from $2,400. Among the models, only Telegaon (base $5,050, bull $6,400) puts ETH above the record in 2027, and the other five top out between about $2,900 and $4,300; Standard Chartered’s $10,000 is the main exception among named forecasters. A new high next year therefore sits outside most published forecasts.
The drivers are known. Glamsterdam’s activation and its higher gas limit, renewed ETF demand, a revived US market structure bill in the new Congress and any return of the fee burn would all help. A continued shift of activity to layer-2 networks that pay little to Ethereum, and competition from faster chains, would work against it.
ETH Price Prediction 2028
The next Bitcoin halving is expected around April 2028. ETH’s past cycle peaks came in January 2018, November 2021 and August 2025, each 16 to 18 months after a halving, so if the pattern holds, which it may not, the strongest part of the next cycle would fall in 2029 rather than 2028.
The model median for 2028 is about $4,177, with a range of $2,065 to $8,100. Standard Chartered’s 2028 target of $18,000, trimmed from $22,000 in February, would value ETH at about $2.2 trillion at today’s supply, more than Bitcoin’s entire market capitalization today of about $1.66 trillion.
ETH Price Prediction 2030
Published forecasts for 2030 differ by a factor of more than 13. The median of the six models is about $4,954, with a low of $3,044 and a high of $12,000 in Telegaon’s bull case. Finder’s panel of 21 specialists puts ETH at $11,712 in 2030, and Standard Chartered keeps its $40,000 target, unchanged since it was introduced in January 2026.
Market capitalization is the reality check. At today’s supply of about 122.15 million ETH, the model median would value Ethereum at about $605 billion, close to its value at the August 2025 peak. Finder’s $11,712 implies about $1.43 trillion, and Standard Chartered’s $40,000 about $4.9 trillion, nearly three times Bitcoin’s current market capitalization and more than the entire crypto market today. Supply growth of about 0.8% a year would raise those figures slightly by 2030.
ETH Price Prediction 2035 and 2040
Only four of the six models publish 2035 figures and three publish 2040 figures. For 2035 their median is about $6,804, with a range of $5,563 to $24,000; Finder’s panel expects $21,856. For 2040 the median is about $8,238, with a range of $7,001 to $40,000. Forecasts this far out are scenarios, not predictions: they depend on whether Ethereum remains the main settlement layer for tokenized assets and stablecoins.
Will ETH Reach $10,000?
Not in 2026 on any market-based measure: Polymarket prices a move to $10,000 this year at under 1%. Over a longer horizon, the answer depends on how big Ethereum’s economy becomes. The table shows the gain each price requires from $2,400 and the market capitalization it implies at today’s supply of 122.15 million ETH.
| ETH Price | Gain From $2,400 | Implied Market Cap |
|---|---|---|
| $3,000 | +25% | $366 billion |
| $4,000 (Standard Chartered, 2026) | +67% | $489 billion |
| $4,946 (record) | +106% | $604 billion |
| $6,000 | +150% | $733 billion |
| $10,000 | +317% | $1.22 trillion |
| $15,000 | +525% | $1.83 trillion |
| $20,000 | +733% | $2.44 trillion |
| $40,000 (Standard Chartered, 2030) | +1,567% | $4.89 trillion |
| $100,000 | +4,067% | $12.2 trillion |
For context, Bitcoin’s market capitalization is about $1.66 trillion and the whole crypto market is worth about $2.75 trillion, according to CoinGecko. A $10,000 ETH would be worth about three-quarters of Bitcoin today. Among the sources on this page, Standard Chartered reaches $10,000 in 2027, Telegaon’s bull case and Finder’s panel reach it around 2030, and the model median does not reach it before 2040. Tom Lee has described much higher multi-year scenarios of $50,000 to $62,000, which would imply a market capitalization of $6.1 trillion to $7.6 trillion.
Key Risks and Bear Case Factors
Fee compression: with the burn offsetting only about 2% of issuance in 2026, ETH’s supply is growing, and value accrual depends on demand for staking and settlement rather than scarcity.
ETF and treasury demand: spot ETFs have posted three straight weeks of outflows, and BitMine, the biggest corporate buyer, is close to its self-imposed 5% cap.
ETH/BTC underperformance: at about 0.029, the ratio is well below the 0.04 that Tom Lee’s $6,000 scenario assumes.
Competition and execution: faster layer-1 chains compete for trading activity, and Glamsterdam’s mainnet timing remains uncertain after slipping from the first half of 2026.
Regulation and macro: the CLARITY Act failed a Senate procedural vote in September and is unlikely to pass in this Congress, and the Federal Reserve raised rates in September; our CLARITY Act explainer covers what the bill would change.
Bull Case vs. Bear Case
Bull case: Glamsterdam gets a mainnet date and ships, the gas limit rises toward 200 million, staking ETFs and brokers bring new demand, ETF flows turn positive and the ETH/BTC ratio recovers. ETH reclaims $3,000, ends 2026 between $3,000 and $3,400 and challenges its record in 2028 or 2029, in line with the bullish model ranges.
Bear case: ETF outflows continue, BitMine stops buying, supply keeps inflating at about 0.8% a year, and activity keeps moving to layer-2 networks and rival chains. ETH loses $2,000, retests the June low near $1,506 and spends 2027 below its 2026 high.
On current data, the near-term evidence leans bearish, while the bull case rests on catalysts with dates that have not arrived yet, starting with Glamsterdam’s mainnet decision. For daily coverage of both, see Ethereum News Today.
Where to Buy Ethereum
ETH is available on Coinbase, Binance, OKX, Bybit, Kraken and most other major exchanges, and the most liquid pair is ETH/USDT. US investors can also hold ETH through spot Ether ETFs in a brokerage account, including BlackRock’s ETHA, Fidelity’s FETH and Grayscale’s funds, or through BlackRock’s staked Ether ETF (ETHB) for exposure that includes staking rewards.
ETH can be self-custodied in wallets such as MetaMask, Ledger (see our Ledger Nano X review) and Trezor. Running a validator requires 32 ETH, about $76,800 at current prices, while liquid staking protocols and exchange staking accept smaller amounts.

FAQ
What is the Ethereum price prediction for 2026?
Our base case puts ETH at $2,100 to $2,800 at the end of 2026, centered near $2,450, from about $2,400 on October 19. The bull case is $3,000 to $3,400 if ETF inflows return and Glamsterdam gets a mainnet date, and the bear case is $1,600 to $1,900. Standard Chartered’s $4,000 target would need a 67% rally, which prediction markets price at under 10%.
Will Ethereum go back up?
Forecasting models expect little change by December: CoinCodex, Changelly and Gate put ETH at about $2,390 to $2,415 at year-end, close to today’s $2,400. A move back above $3,000 would most likely need a Glamsterdam mainnet date, a return to ETF inflows and a broader crypto rebound. Polymarket prices about a one-in-three chance that ETH reaches $3,000 before the end of 2026.
Is Ethereum a good investment?
That depends on risk tolerance and time horizon, and ETH remains volatile: it trades about 51% below its August 2025 record and has fallen about 19% in 2026. Supporters point to staking yields of about 2.6%, staking ETFs and Ethereum’s role in tokenized assets and stablecoins. Skeptics note that ETH’s supply is growing again because fee burning has collapsed, and that ETF outflows have continued for three weeks.
How high can Ethereum go by 2030?
The median of six forecasting models puts ETH at about $4,954 in 2030, roughly its August 2025 record, with a range from about $3,044 to $12,000. A Finder panel of 21 specialists expects $11,712, while Standard Chartered’s $40,000 target is the highest major forecast and would value Ethereum at about $4.9 trillion, more than the entire crypto market is worth today.
Will Ethereum reach $10,000?
Not in 2026 by any market-based measure: Polymarket prices a move to $10,000 this year at under 1%. From about $2,400, $10,000 requires a 317% gain and a market capitalization of about $1.22 trillion, roughly three-quarters of Bitcoin’s today. Standard Chartered targets $10,000 for 2027, Finder’s panel and Telegaon’s bull case reach it around 2030, and the model median stays below it through 2040.
How accurate were Ethereum price predictions for 2025?
Most were far too high. ETH opened 2025 near $3,338, set a record of $4,946 in August and closed the year at about $2,972, down roughly 11%. Tom Lee had called for $15,000, Standard Chartered for $7,500 and Bitwise for $7,000, while a Finder panel expected $5,034. Standard Chartered’s earlier and more cautious $4,000 call from March came closest to the actual close.
What is the Glamsterdam upgrade and when will it launch?
Glamsterdam is Ethereum’s next hard fork. It adds enshrined proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists, which enable parallel transaction execution, and reprices gas costs, with a path to a 200 million gas limit from 60 million today. It went live on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, 2026, the Hoodi fork follows on October 26, and the mainnet date has not been decided.
How does Ethereum staking work?
Validators lock ETH to propose and attest to blocks and earn rewards, currently about 2.6% a year. Running a validator alone requires 32 ETH, while liquid staking protocols such as Lido and Rocket Pool and most exchanges accept smaller amounts. About 43.7 million ETH, or 35.8% of supply, is staked, and US investors can also earn staking rewards through BlackRock’s ETHB and Grayscale’s Ether funds.
