Chainlink and LG CNS Target Korean Stablecoins and Tokenized Securities
A major component of the agreement involves expanding the distribution and practical applications of stablecoins linked to South Korea’s currency. South Korea currently lacks a comprehensive legal framework governing the commercial issuance and trading of won-denominated stablecoins.
Lawmakers are developing the Digital Asset Basic Act, which would introduce regulatory standards for stablecoin issuers and other cryptocurrency businesses. Meanwhile, LG CNS plans to use Chainlink’s interoperability technology to connect blockchain networks with institutional financial systems.
The companies also intend to support South Korea’s tokenized securities market through reliable data infrastructure and cross-chain transaction capabilities. Hongkeun Kim, executive vice president and head of digital business at LG CNS, described tokenization as a major financial transition.
“Korea’s financial infrastructure is entering the tokenization era,” Kim stated.
LG CNS Expands Institutional Blockchain Infrastructure Through Chainlink Partnership
Beyond the partnership, LG CNS already holds a significant position within South Korea’s digital currency development efforts. The company serves as the lead contractor for Project Hangang, the Bank of Korea’s flagship digital currency initiative.
Chainlink provides decentralized infrastructure that connects blockchain applications with external information, financial systems, and other blockchain networks. Its services support decentralized finance platforms, real-world asset tokenization, and institutional blockchain applications.
LG Group also operates 63 affiliates, with approximately 186 trillion won in assets and combined subsidiary market capitalization exceeding $100 billion. The agreement connects Chainlink with an established technology provider involved in South Korea’s institutional digital currency infrastructure.
