Aztec Tierra Upgrade Fixes Critical Proving Vulnerability and Speeds Private Ethereum Transactions

Aztec said on Nov. 4 that its Tierra upgrade has resolved vulnerabilities affecting earlier versions of its network, including a critical V5 proving-system issue that the project warned could expose users and applications to protocol-level failure. The remediation arrives with Tierra v6.0.0, the Alpha V6 release launched the previous day, and Aztec has directed V5 users and applications to migrate.
In its announcement, Aztec also said Tierra adds formal verification and AI-powered security testing. The release combines the security work with faster client-side private proof generation and shorter Ethereum-to-Aztec message delivery times.
Tierra v6.0.0 resolves the V5 proving-system vulnerability
Aztec’s network-status record, dated Nov. 3, identifies the V5 issue as a critical proving-system vulnerability and says it is resolved in Tierra v6.0.0. The project said the flaw could lead to protocol-level failure for V5 users and applications, making the release principally a security migration for those still using the earlier version.
Alongside its statement that Tierra resolves vulnerabilities from prior versions and introduces additional security processes—including formal verification and AI-powered testing—Aztec offered no further technical detail in the supplied announcement about the underlying vulnerability or how the new testing measures were applied.

Alpha V6 pairs the fix with faster private proofs
Aztec launched Tierra, or Alpha V6, on Nov. 3 and reported client-side private proofs taking approximately one second—about twice as fast as on the previous network. It also reported Ethereum-to-Aztec message delivery in as little as 12 seconds, compared with an average of two minutes previously, according to its launch announcement.
The performance figures are Aztec’s own reported measurements. Separately, TokenPost reported that the governance-approved upgrade replaced the flawed V5 rollup, with proof generation on native hardware falling to roughly one second from about 2.5 seconds for a V5 token transfer.
That comparison puts the release’s speed claim alongside the urgent migration notice: Tierra is intended to replace a version Aztec has flagged as critically vulnerable while reducing the time required for private transactions and cross-chain messages. Aztec’s Nov. 4 update said the new version also incorporates formal verification and AI-powered security testing as part of the upgrade.
