In Brief:
- XRP recovered 5% as Binance traders recorded $184 million in derivatives buying activity following a decline below the $1.30 level.
- Binance recorded $73 million in peak hourly buying volume, while Bybit and OKX registered significantly lower trading activity during recovery.
- Concentrated leveraged positions raised liquidation concerns, leaving investors monitoring spot market demand and potential volatility following the XRP price rebound.
XRP traders recorded more than $184 million in derivatives buying activity on Binance on October 16, supporting a 5% price recovery. According to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, buying activity increased significantly when XRP dropped below $1.30 amid broader cryptocurrency market losses.
XRP previously declined 22.5% from its September high of $1.65, reflecting broader weakness across digital assets. Stronger than expected US inflation figures contributed to the decline, weighing on cryptocurrency prices and traditional financial markets.
Both Consumer Price Index and Producer Price Index readings raised concerns about persistent inflation and monetary policy expectations. Consequently, XRP slipped below $1.30 before aggressive buying activity helped reverse part of its losses.

Binance XRP Buying Volume Surges as Rival Exchanges Record Limited Activity
CryptoQuant data revealed that Binance dominated XRP derivatives buying, recording substantially higher volumes than competing cryptocurrency exchanges.
During the busiest trading hour, Binance registered more than $73 million in XRP taker buy volume. Several subsequent hourly periods recorded approximately $35 million each, bringing total buying activity above $184 million.

Since its last high of September 23 at $1.65, XRP has corrected by as much as -22.5% yesterday, following the bad CPI figures released the day before, then the PPI figures, and a lower open on US markets.

Meanwhile, Bybit recorded approximately $1 million in comparable buying activity during the same peak hour. OKX registered less than $451,000, highlighting the substantial concentration of trading activity on Binance.
Taker buy volume measures aggressive market purchases executed against available sell orders at prevailing prices. These transactions reflect derivatives trading activity rather than confirmed new capital entering XRP’s spot market.
XRP Derivatives Buying Raises Liquidation Concerns
The buying surge highlighted increased participation among traders using derivatives contracts to gain exposure to XRP price movements. Unlike direct cryptocurrency purchases, leveraged derivatives positions expose traders to liquidation when market prices move against their expectations.
Large positions concentrated around similar price levels can also increase selling pressure during sudden market reversals. Additionally, the limited buying activity across competing exchanges suggests that XRP’s recovery lacked equally strong derivatives participation across major platforms.
Overall, XRP’s 5% recovery reflected concentrated buying on Binance, while leveraged positioning presented additional risks during broader market uncertainty.
