In Brief:
The XRP Ledger Foundation has confirmed that a critical security vulnerability did not result in unauthorized XRP creation. According to the foundation, developers addressed the flaw through the XRP Ledger 3.4.1 update released on September 25.
The clarification follows concerns that attackers could have exploited the vulnerability to bypass XRP’s fixed supply restrictions. Foundation officials maintained that blockchain records showed no evidence of unauthorized token creation.
XRP launched with a fixed supply of 100 billion tokens, which gradually decreases as transaction fees are destroyed. Currently, approximately 99.986 billion XRP remain, reflecting the network’s deflationary mechanism.
Additionally, the foundation emphasized that public blockchain explorers allow independent verification of XRP balances and historical transactions. Its monitoring systems also confirmed that the vulnerability had not compromised the network’s supply.

XRP Ledger Foundation Explains Emergency Security Fix and Validator Approval
The vulnerability required hundreds of deliberately constructed operations, making accidental activation through ordinary transactions highly unlikely.
Security researchers Cayden Liao and Veria AI identified the flaw and reported it through responsible disclosure procedures. Their findings prompted coordination between RippleX, developers, validators, and the foundation to implement protective measures.
Rather than exposing the vulnerability through the conventional amendment process, developers distributed an emergency software fix. This approach reduced the possibility of attackers exploiting publicly available vulnerability details before network protection became effective.
Consequently, developers shared the security build with default Unique Node List validators through their published contact information. Public binaries became available on September 25, allowing other operators to install the update.
Importantly, the foundation clarified that validators independently determine which software versions operate on their systems. The amendment process still required more than 80% validator support for two weeks.
Foundation Outlines Stronger AI Security Testing Measures
Beyond the immediate fix, the foundation announced plans to strengthen security through formal verification and artificial intelligence testing. These measures will help developers identify complex vulnerabilities before attackers exploit weaknesses in network software.
Additionally, RippleX and community researchers will collaborate on improved security assessments and an expanded bug bounty program. The foundation maintained that the emergency response preserved XRP’s supply integrity while respecting decentralized validator governance and established network amendment requirements.
