Shiba Inu on Solana, 42.48 billion tokens and $218,000: What happens to SHIB now?

Shiba Inu has been live on Solana since October 4. Twelve days on, it is possible to measure for the first time how much of it has actually arrived: 42,482,958,189 tokens, from our own query of the Solana blockchain on Friday afternoon. That sounds like a lot, and set against a circulating supply of 589.24 trillion SHIB it is very little.
The price stood at $0.00000514 on Friday afternoon, 2.6 percent above the previous day and 4.2 percent below the level of a week earlier (CoinMarketCap). Where the price can go over a longer horizon is set out in our Shiba Inu price prediction. This article turns on a different question: what is the new route on Solana worth, and what does it change for you?
42.48 billion SHIB sit on the Solana side
The figure does not come from a press release but from the blockchain itself. A call to the getTokenSupply method against a public Solana node returns, for the address shib5gSoVKPjwkXrxRk7SbQFzb2R9rQB3TgQWYX4RwW on Friday afternoon, block 457,675,953, exactly 424,829,581,898,636 units at four decimal places. Written out, that is 42,482,958,189.86 SHIB.
This is the right address. Sunrise, the provider behind the listing, described it at launch as the canonical SHIB on Solana; the official Shiba Inu account confirmed the launch five minutes later, the Solana account six minutes after that (record of the launch posts at Solana Compass).
One note on reading the number: the balance is not a counter for trading or popularity. It says only how many SHIB exist as tokens on the Solana side at this moment.
0.0072 percent of circulating supply, around $218,000
The figure only becomes legible as a ratio. 42.48 billion out of 589.24 trillion tokens is 0.0072 percent of the circulating supply. At Friday afternoon's price, the balance is worth around $218,000.
For comparison: over the same period, SHIB worth $48.33 million changed hands in 24 hours (CoinMarketCap, as of October 16). The entire Solana balance therefore equals 0.45 percent of a single trading day. SHIB's market capitalisation stands at $3.03 billion, 32nd in the rankings. Dogecoin, the next-largest meme asset, turned over $715 million the same day, almost fifteen times SHIB.
Spread over the period, an average of 3.54 billion tokens a day has moved to the Solana side in twelve days, worth around $18,000 daily. That is the order of magnitude of a single larger retail investor, not of a new market.
How the balance on Solana comes about
A token does not travel between blockchains. What happens with listings like this is a two-sided swap: on the originating blockchain, tokens are locked in a contract; on the destination blockchain, the same quantity is newly issued. On the way back, the new quantity is destroyed and the locked one released again. The number on the Solana side is therefore a balance, not an additional supply: the ERC-20 token on Ethereum remains the reference, and the circulating supply does not grow because of it.
Which procedure Sunrise uses for SHIB specifically is not stated in the launch posts. Reports pointing to a particular technique do not rest on any statement from Sunrise itself. Anyone who wants certainty has to ask there; we make no claim about it.

The mint authority still rests with one address, and nobody can freeze holdings
Two fields of the token account matter more to holders than the quantity does, and both can be read in the same query. The mint authority, meaning the power to issue new units, rests with the address RPGDHX3Aory7VEFzdTbNNosxb1gK9nXZUZ5T6WU1fgc and has not been relinquished. The freeze authority, by contrast, is set to null, so nobody can lock individual balances.
Both are exactly what a working bridge needs: without issuance authority, nobody could mint tokens when someone crosses over from Ethereum. What the fields mean and who may change them is described by Solana's own documentation (token basics at solana.com).
There are two takeaways here. Your balance cannot be frozen by anyone, which is the good news. The quantity on the Solana side can change at any time, however, and it says nothing about the total supply of SHIB. To check the circulating supply, keep looking at the contract on Ethereum.
How to check the mint address before your first purchase
On Solana, the ticker is not an identity document. Anyone can create a token and call it SHIB. The only binding identifier is the mint address, meaning the long string above. Here is the sequence to follow before you swap for the first time on a decentralised exchange:
- Copy the mint address from a source you trust, not from a reply under a post on a social network.
- In the swap window, compare the full address, not just the name and ticker. Fraudsters match the first and last four characters, not the middle.
- Check the price impact shown before you confirm. With a balance of $218,000, even a mid-sized order is enough to move the price in the swap window noticeably.
Those three steps cost a minute. The loss they prevent is usually the entire amount committed, because a swap on a decentralised exchange cannot be reversed.

Seven other Solana tokens carried the same ticker on launch day
This is not a theoretical risk. A search on Solana Compass on October 4, the day of the listing, found seven further Solana tokens with the ticker SHIB alongside the canonical one, among them an older bridged version from an earlier attempt. An older version is not automatically a scam, but neither is it the token the launch refers to, and it has its own thin market.
How serious the situation is became clear on October 12, when a well-known figure from the Shiba Inu community publicly called a virally shared supposed airdrop a wallet drainer. The same pattern, a familiar name on an unfamiliar address, works just as well on Solana.
Where SHIB can be traded on Solana and where the price comes from
At launch the Solana account named nine applications, among them Jupiter, Raydium, Phantom, Kamino Swap, Mayan, Titan, DFlow, Fomo and Archer. The token can be traded there, then, and access is straightforward.
Where the price comes from is another question. A market of $218,000 does not form a price of its own. What you see in the swap window follows the price set on Ethereum and on the large centralised exchanges, where the $48.33 million mentioned above changes hands daily. The Solana route is an additional point of access, not an additional market.
Anyone buying SHIB through regular channels in Germany therefore stays with the familiar route via a supervised exchange. Which providers are authorised under MiCA and what they cost is covered in our comparison of the best crypto exchanges.
What has changed since Thursday's report
On Thursday we showed that SHIB turns over three times as much in futures trading as on the spot market, and what the EU rules say about leverage there (Shiba Inu in futures trading). Since then the price has moved from $0.00000502 to $0.00000514, up 2.6 percent, while the weekly balance stayed negative at minus 4.2 percent.
The picture from Thursday's report and today's measurement fit together, and that is the real point: what happens with SHIB happens in futures trading and on the large exchanges, not on new blockchains. The Solana balance of 0.0072 percent of supply is the counter-check.
For investors in Germany: route, network and holding period
Three points matter now. First, the buying route: an exchange supervised under MiCA and domiciled in the EU remains the simplest solution for getting in, because documentation and settlement are regulated there.
Second, the network. Shiba Inu now exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, on Shibarium and as an SPL token on Solana. These versions are not interchangeable. Send ERC-20 tokens to a Solana address and they are generally lost. Before every withdrawal, check which network the exchange offers and which one your wallet expects. If you hold the tokens yourself, you will find suitable devices in our hardware wallet comparison.
Third, tax. The one-year holding period for private disposals under section 23 of the German Income Tax Act hinges on whether the tax office treats a transaction as a disposal. Moving across a bridge is not an ordinary sale, but neither is it a mere transfer between your own addresses. So record the date, the quantity and both addresses, and clarify the classification with a tax adviser before you bridge. The political framework for this remains open, as our coverage of the missed cabinet date shows.
Our assessment: the Solana route is an offer, not a price driver
In this newsroom's view, the listing on Solana is good news for reach and none for the price. Three documented figures support that: 0.0072 percent of circulating supply on the new side, around $218,000 in value and 0.45 percent of a trading day. A quantity capable of moving the price would look different.
Against that, twelve days is a short period, and access routes fill up slowly. Should the balance grow into the hundreds of billions over the coming weeks, that would be a signal that capital really is moving across. The figure is public and verifiable at any time, so it works well as a yardstick. None of this is a recommendation to buy or sell; SHIB remains a high-risk asset, up to total loss.
SHIB on Solana: $218,000 does not carry a price of its own
What makes sense now, in three steps:
- Settle the buying route. Decide whether you buy through a supervised exchange in the EU or swap on Solana. For getting started, the regulated route is the simpler one; the terms are in the exchange comparison.
- Check the network and the address. Match the network before every withdrawal and, on Solana, compare the full mint address, not just the first few characters. If you hold your own coins, pick the device in the hardware wallet comparison.
- Set up your records. Note the date, quantity and addresses of every bridge transaction before the question comes up next spring. Our report on the missed cabinet date sums up where the holding-period reform stands.
