Fed Rate Hike Risk Returns: Bitcoin, Stocks, and Gold Face a New Test

Fed rate hike risk returns after a hot US inflation report. On Kalshi, the odds of a 25bps hike at the 28 October meeting jumped from 21% to 46%.

The odds of unchanged rates fell from 79% to 55%. Bank of America now expects three hikes through June 2027.

What Did the Inflation Report Change?

The September CPI report landed at 12:30 UTC on 14 October. Annual inflation rose to 3.7%, above the 3.6% forecast. Core CPI hit 2.6%, against 2.5% expected.

The two-year Treasury yield rose about 10 basis points to 4.89%. New York Fed President John Williams had also said one more hike is appropriate this year.

Prediction market odds are not decisions, but the CME FedWatch tool lets traders compare them against futures pricing.

Why Do Bitcoin, Stocks, and Gold Care?

Higher rates raise the return on cash and bonds. That pulls money away from assets that pay no yield. Gold fell about 1.10% after the data, and the VIX volatility index rose. Wall Street also retreated.

Bitcoin faces the same pressure, and it was already defying two macro headwinds from the dollar and Treasury yields. Demand adds to the test, since Bitcoin ETF inflows collapsed 88% in early October.

Bitcoin Slips Toward $81,000

At about 09:10 UTC on 15 October 2026, Bitcoin traded at $81,256.77. That is down 2.2% over seven days.

The seven-day chart opens near $83,000 on 9 October. Price dipped to about $80,650 that day, then climbed back above $83,000 by 11 October.

A peak near $84,100 came on 12 October. Bitcoin dipped to about $81,400 early on 13 October and rebounded to about $83,800 on 14 October.

The CPI release at 12:30 UTC reversed that move. Price fell toward $81,500, slid further on 15 October, and briefly touched $81,000.

The Date Markets Now Circle

The Fed meets on 28 October, and the decision comes at 1:00 pm EDT. A three-hike path through June 2027 is a bank forecast, not a promise.

Corporate buyers like Strategy still add coins, as Strategy added 250 BTC this week. One report moved October hike odds by 25 points in a day. The next inflation print could move them again.
