In Brief:
- Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP worth approximately $1.25 billion through two separate transactions, marking its scheduled November escrow release.
- Ripple typically returns approximately 700 million XRP to escrow, while October developments included expanded RLUSD availability through Coinbase trading platforms.
- XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment targets November 4 activation, requiring sustained validator approval above 80% to implement important network improvements successfully.
Ripple has unlocked 1 billion XRP worth approximately $1.25 billion as November begins, marking another scheduled release from its escrow holdings. According to blockchain tracker Whale Alert, Ripple executed two transactions involving 500 million XRP each on November 1, with each valued at approximately $626.43 million, bringing the combined release to $1.25 billion.
Ripple’s 1 Billion XRP Unlock Raises Supply Questions
Ripple established its escrow system to manage XRP distribution through scheduled releases while maintaining greater predictability around token supply. The company initially placed 55 billion XRP into escrow, allowing monthly releases of up to 1 billion tokens.

Despite the substantial unlock, the entire amount does not automatically enter circulation because Ripple typically returns unused tokens to escrow. Historically, Ripple has relocked approximately 700 million XRP monthly while retaining the remainder for liquidity management and operational requirements.
Meanwhile, October brought several developments across Ripple’s ecosystem, including its Swell conference and the XRP Seoul event. Coinbase also expanded RLUSD availability, enabling retail and institutional customers to access Ripple’s stablecoin through several trading platforms. These services include Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and the Coinbase retail application, supporting broader access to RLUSD transactions.
XRP Ledger Prepares for November 4 Network Amendment
Beyond the escrow release, the XRP Ledger is preparing for another technical upgrade involving the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment. According to XRPScan data, the amendment could activate on November 4, 2026, at approximately 2.46 p.m. UTC.
The proposal entered its activation window on October 21 following a reset in validator voting. Activation requires validator support to remain above 80% throughout the mandatory 14-day approval period.
Any decline to 80% or lower would restart the voting process and delay implementation. The amendment introduces fixes affecting Automated Market Makers, lending operations, Single Asset Vaults, and permissioned decentralized exchanges.
Additional improvements address NFTs, trust lines, escrow functionality, transaction signing, sponsorship, and permission delegation. Significantly, the upgrade would enable PaymentBurn permission delegation following October’s activation of the broader Permission Delegation feature.
Ripple’s November escrow release and the approaching amendment represent separate developments affecting XRP distribution and XRPL network functionality.
