Chainlink Crypto News: DTCC's $114T Tokenization Launch Explained
The Depository Trust Company, a subsidiary of DTCC, has launched its long-awaited tokenization service for securities held in its custody.
The day after the launch, the group’s chief executive spoke at the Link:NYC event, where Chainlink also shared its own role in the rollout.
This Chainlink crypto news update explains the official facts in simple words and shows which claims come from which source.
What the Tokenization Service Does
According to the official press release dated 28 October 2026, the DTCC Tokenization Service lets eligible users create tokenized versions of securities held at DTC.
These tokens can be moved to digital wallets and converted back into traditional form.
The stated aim is to support better liquidity, easier movement of collateral, and stronger capital efficiency.
DTC says it holds more than 114 trillion dollars in assets under custody. In the release, DTCC CEO Frank La Salla called the launch the end of years of work to bring tokenized securities into a regulated framework.
The release also names partners that support wallets, applications, and technology around the service.
They include BitGo Bank & Trust, Blockdaemon, Broadridge, DFNS, DRW, Fireblocks, Ondo, Talos, Tradeweb, and Virtu.
Nadine Chakar, Global Head of Digital Assets at the group, said the launch is only the beginning of a plan to build a Web3 ecosystem that links trusted market infrastructure with digital ledger technology.
How Tokenized Securities Work
The release calls tokenized securities “digital twins” of regular ones. Simply put, each token mirrors a real security that DTC already holds.
The company says these tokens keep the same ownership rights, investor protections and economic benefits as their traditional versions.
Key features listed in the release:
-
Tokens can be converted between traditional and tokenized forms
-
Tokens can be delivered to the digital wallet that a user prefers
-
Assets can be mobilized as collateral within minutes
-
The service was built with input from more than 150 firms in an industry working group
Who Is Using It and Where It Runs
The release says 20 DTC participants have already signed agreements to access the service, and more will join on a rolling basis.
It currently connects to the Canton Network and a private Besu network run by the group.
More blockchain networks are planned for 2027.
| Item | Detail from the release |
| Launch date | 28 October 2026 |
| Signed participants | 20, including Citi, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity Investments and UBS |
| Networks today | Canton Network and a private Besu network |
| More networks | To be added in 2027 |
| Regulatory step | SEC no-action letter received in December 2025 |
Brian Steele, a senior executive at the group, said engagement from more than 150 firms shows the industry is ready to move beyond experimentation toward practical use.
The no-action letter allows tokenization of Russell 1000 stocks, exchange-traded funds that track major indices, and U.S. Treasury securities.
About seven months later, the group and more than 30 firms completed initial limited-production trades.
Chainlink’s Role in the Rollout
The network says it powered those first production trades in July 2026. In its post on X, it named more than 30 institutions involved, including BlackRock, J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, NYSE, Nasdaq and Microsoft.

These details come from that post, and the DTCC release does not mention the project by name, so readers should treat the claim as the network’s own statement.
For readers following Chainlink crypto news, a second post matters too. In a video from Link:NYC, La Salla spoke with Sergey Nazarov and said the change would free up billions of dollars of trapped liquidity.

Chainlink also said it will keep working with the depository on round-the-clock collateral workflows using its Runtime Environment and data standard.
Why This Chainlink Crypto News Matters
DTCC says its subsidiaries processed securities transactions worth 4.7 quadrillion dollars in 2025.
When a market infrastructure of that size adds a tokenized option, it shows that digital assets are moving closer to everyday finance.
Still, the release describes a phased start, with limited participants and two networks, so wide adoption will take time.
Several points remain open:
-
How quickly the remaining participants will onboard
-
When the extra networks will arrive in 2027
-
How much of the process depends on these tools, since only their maker has described its part
Conclusion
The launch of the DTCC Tokenization Service is a clear, officially confirmed step for tokenized securities in regulated markets.
The Chainlink crypto news angle adds details about its role, though those details come from the network itself. Readers should follow the DTCC press page and Chainlink’s official channels for further confirmed updates.
