U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $202.4 million in net outflows between October 26 and October 30. This means more money was withdrawn from the funds than investors put in.

The funds attracted more money than they lost during the first four trading days. However, heavy withdrawals on Friday pushed the weekly total into negative territory. Friday also recorded the largest single-day outflow of the week. The reason was heavily tied to the recent Binance hack.

Despite the overall withdrawals, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) finished the week with positive net flows. Fidelity’s FBTC and ARK Invest’s ARKB recorded the largest net outflows.

Four Days of Inflows Erased by Friday’s Heavy Withdrawals

ETF activity remained positive from Monday through Thursday before a sharp reversal on Friday.

Monday, October 26: ETFs recorded $110.3 million in net inflows, equivalent to approximately 1,380 BTC. IBIT accounted for the entire reported inflow.

Tuesday, October 27: Net inflows increased to $176 million, or approximately 2,200 BTC. IBIT attracted $151.5 million, while FBTC added $24.5 million.

Wednesday, October 28: ETFs recorded another $137.3 million in net inflows, equivalent to approximately 1,700 BTC. IBIT contributed $136 million, with BITB adding $1.3 million.

Thursday, October 29: Inflows slowed considerably to $17.2 million, or approximately 212 BTC. IBIT, FBTC, BITB and MSBT recorded positive flows, offsetting withdrawals from BTCW and the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust.

Friday, October 30: The market experienced a major reversal as ETFs recorded $643.2 million in net outflows, equivalent to approximately 8,250 BTC. IBIT led withdrawals with $233.7 million, followed by FBTC with $201 million and ARKB with $129.5 million.

Friday’s withdrawals more than offset the combined inflows recorded during the previous four trading days.

This reversed the previous week’s $301.2 million in net inflows, a $503.6 million change in weekly flows.

IBIT Leads Inflows as Most Funds Record Outflows

IBIT recorded approximately $176.9 million in net inflows for the week, making it the strongest-performing fund by net flows.

Other funds recorded the following movements:

  • FBTC: $166 million in net outflows.
  • ARKB: $129.5 million in net outflows.
  • GBTC: $53.3 million in net outflows.
  • BITB: $15.6 million in net outflows.
  • BTC: $15.3 million in net outflows.
  • BTCW: $3.8 million in net outflows.
  • MSBT: $4.2 million in net inflows.

Although IBIT attracted fresh capital during the first four trading days, its $233.7 million outflow on Friday was not enough to erase its weekly gains. Meanwhile, heavy withdrawals from FBTC and ARKB contributed significantly to the overall negative result.

ETF Outflows Fall Below Newly Mined Bitcoin Supply

Of the $202.4 million in net outflows recorded during the week, the ETFs sold approximately 2,758 BTC.

Bitcoin miners produce approximately 450 BTC daily, bringing the estimated amount of newly mined Bitcoin to 3,150 BTC per week.

This means ETF withdrawals were equivalent to about 88% of the Bitcoin mined during the week, or roughly 6.1 days of mining output.

The previous week, October 19–23, ETFs recorded 3,773 BTC in net inflows. This was about 1.2 times the amount of Bitcoin mined during that week, equivalent to 8.4 days of mining output.

The week therefore marked a shift from ETFs buying more Bitcoin than miners produced in the previous week to recording net withdrawals. Friday’s heavy selling played a major role in this change.

Bitcoin Gives Back Midweek Gains

Bitcoin opened Monday, October 26, at approximately $80,048 and closed Sunday, November 1, at $78,233, down about 2.3% for the week.

The price climbed to $81,250 by Wednesday before falling sharply on Thursday, closing at $77,793, a 4.3% drop. Interestingly, ETFs still recorded $17.2 million in net inflows that day.

Bitcoin fell further on Friday, closing at $77,187 as ETFs recorded their largest outflow of the week. It recovered slightly over the weekend, reaching $78,233 on Sunday, but remained below its Monday opening price.

Overall, Bitcoin ended the week lower despite four consecutive days of ETF inflows. Friday’s heavy withdrawals also coincided with continued price weakness. However, this does not mean ETF flows alone caused the price movements.
