Summary
- BNB Chain introduces Red Alarm to help cryptocurrency users identify potentially risky decentralized applications and smart contracts before approving transactions.
- BNB Chain addresses Reth client security vulnerabilities, urging BSC-Reth node operators to install the latest hotfix across mainnet and testnet.
- The Jenner upgrade introduces Payment Lane, reserving 5% of block gas capacity for eligible transactions to improve blockchain payment processing.
BNB Chain has launched a security feature called Red Alarm to help cryptocurrency users identify potentially dangerous decentralized applications and smart contracts. The tool warns users about suspicious platforms before transactions, amid heightened security concerns following Binance’s multibillion-dollar October breach.
BNB Chain Strengthens User Protection With Red Alarm and Security Updates
Red Alarm allows users to identify decentralized applications and smart contracts that may expose their cryptocurrency holdings to security threats. Through the feature, users can access risk warnings before interacting with potentially harmful blockchain applications.

BNB Chain introduced the security measure as decentralized finance platforms attract more users and expand their services. Consequently, identifying suspicious contracts has become increasingly important for protecting digital assets across blockchain networks.
Additionally, the feature provides security information that users can consider before connecting wallets or authorizing transactions. These warnings highlight potential risks without necessarily confirming that flagged applications operate fraudulently.
The announcement follows heightened security concerns across cryptocurrency markets following Binance’s major security breach in late October. That incident raised broader concerns about asset protection and vulnerabilities affecting cryptocurrency infrastructure.
Keeping users safe takes ongoing work across crypto.
BNB Chain’s Red Alarm contributes by flagging potentially high-risk dApps and contracts, giving users more information to work with.

Alongside Red Alarm, BNB Chain addressed a separate security vulnerability affecting the Reth blockchain client on November 6. The network confirmed that opBNB does not use op-reth, while the impact on BSC-Reth remained limited.
According to BNB Chain, BSC-Reth node operators must upgrade to version v0.1.4-hotfix and restart their nodes. The instructions apply to operators running infrastructure across both mainnet and testnet environments.
BNB Chain Advances Jenner Upgrade and Payment Lane Development
Meanwhile, BNB Chain outlined additional network developments, including a new layer-one blockchain and improvements to BNB Smart Chain. The Jenner upgrade has reached the BSC testnet, introducing changes involving payment processing, application timing, and token functionality.
Under BEP-703, Payment Lane reserves 5% of each block’s gas capacity for eligible payment transactions. This mechanism protects qualifying BNB transfers from competing with unrelated network activity for the entire available block capacity.
Approved token payments may also qualify for the reserved transaction capacity under the proposed mechanism. BNB Chain’s Red Alarm initiative strengthens its user protection efforts alongside technical security updates and planned network improvements. The feature provides additional risk information as blockchain applications expand across the ecosystem.
