Summary

  • Ripple and Aviva Investors launched a tokenised share class for Aviva’s £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund using XRP Ledger infrastructure.
  • Aviva’s tokenised fund investments exceed £86 million, including £50 million allocated to its sterling offering, strengthening its European market presence.
  • Ripple and Aviva executives highlighted institutional tokenisation growth, while Komainu, Licuido, and BNY Mellon support the fund’s digital investment infrastructure.

Ripple and Aviva Investors have expanded their blockchain partnership by launching a tokenised share class for Aviva’s £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund. According to the announcement, the new offering operates on the XRP Ledger, providing eligible investors with blockchain-based access to the asset manager’s largest fund.

The development marks Aviva Investors’ second tokenised fund initiative, following its USD Liquidity Fund launch in July 2026. With both offerings, the company now ranks among Europe’s largest providers of tokenised money market funds.

Combined investments across the two tokenised share classes exceed £86 million ($116 million). Aviva has committed £50 million ($66 million) to the sterling offering, strengthening its investment in blockchain-based fund distribution.

Ripple’s XRP Ledger Powers Aviva’s £22 Billion Fund Tokenisation

The new share class operates on the XRP Ledger, allowing eligible investors to access Sterling Liquidity Fund holdings through digital wallets. Meanwhile, the underlying fund maintains its existing investment structure, regulatory protections, and liquidity arrangements.

Aviva Investors uses a digital twin model that represents traditional fund holdings on blockchain infrastructure without replacing the underlying assets. This approach introduces digital access while preserving the fund’s established operational framework.

The Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund launched in 2002 and invests in high-grade, sterling-denominated short-term debt instruments. Its investment strategy targets low-risk returns and daily liquidity, with identical objectives applying to the tokenised share class.

Additionally, institutional digital asset custodian Komainu and tokenisation platform Licuido support the new offering. The Bank of New York Mellon retains custody of the fund’s underlying assets.

Aviva and Ripple Executives Highlight Institutional Tokenisation Growth

Aviva Investors CEO Mark Versey highlighted the company’s intention to expand its tokenised investment offerings through its partnership with Ripple.

“We believe tokenised funds can increase efficiency and ultimately lead to improved client outcomes,” Versey stated.

Ripple Senior Vice President Nigel Khakoo welcomed the expansion, highlighting growing institutional demand for blockchain-based fund management and settlement infrastructure.

“Markets are moving to 24/7 access and settlement is moving to real-time, always-on rails,” Khakoo stated.

The XRP Ledger has processed more than four billion transactions and supports nearly eight million active wallets. Additionally, more than 130 independent validators maintain the network, supporting its institutional tokenisation infrastructure.

Conclusion

The launch expands Ripple’s institutional tokenisation partnership while introducing blockchain-based access to Aviva Investors’ largest fund. With £50 million invested in the sterling share class, Aviva strengthens its position in Europe’s tokenised money market sector.
