Cardano Registers 100,000 Indian Farms On-Chain

The Cardano Foundation has confirmed that 100,000 farm parcels in India are now recorded on the Cardano blockchain.

The latest ADA Network milestone is part of 5am.earth’s agricultural trust layer, developed with Syngenta Foundation India and multiple Cardano ecosystem partners to create verifiable, reusable farm records.

More than 100 million smallholder farmers in India remain outside formal credit, insurance, and premium markets largely because their land boundaries, crop histories, and sustainability practices are poorly documented.

The project addresses that gap by turning fragmented information into persistent on-chain records.

Each farm receives a decentralized identifier linked to satellite-verified boundaries. Historical biomass and crop data spanning up to twelve years are used to establish a sustainability profile.

Once verified, the datasets are written to Cardano so financial institutions, insurers, and trading platforms can check them independently without relying on intermediaries.

The effort draws on a broad set of contributors, including Project Catalyst, AIquantTech, Syngenta and Syngenta Foundation India, Anastasia Labs, VeridianID, Andamio, Zengate Global, NMKR, Elkconnect, and Digifarm.

Syngenta Foundation India supplies field capacity through its network of agri-entrepreneurs, while technical teams handle identity, satellite processing, and blockchain integration.

The Cardano Foundation noted that each transaction sent to a specific address corresponds to one registered farm, making the 100,000 figure directly verifiable on-chain. Mainnet deployment and initial field trials are already complete.

Verified records are intended to lower due-diligence costs for lenders and insurers while giving farmers clearer paths to credit, crop insurance, and higher-value markets.

The case study outlines a goal of raising farmer incomes by as much as 100% over five years, with agri-entrepreneurs potentially earning an additional $120–140 per month by facilitating services around the data.

The infrastructure is designed to expand toward one million farmers without a proportional rise in operating costs. By recording data once and allowing multiple institutions to reuse it, the project aims to reduce repeated verification work across finance, insurance, and agricultural trade.

The 100,000-farm milestone demonstrates that satellite-verified agricultural records can be placed on a public blockchain at meaningful scale.

Whether the resulting data translates into widespread credit and insurance access will depend on how financial institutions and government programs integrate the records in practice.
