Ripple and C2FO Propose XRP Ledger Settlement for Approved Invoices

Ripple and working-capital platform C2FO have announced an initiative to bring settlement of approved supplier invoices onto the XRP Ledger using RLUSD. The project targets a familiar problem in international business: even after financing is agreed and an invoice is approved, money can take additional time to reach the supplier.

C2FO supplier invoice financing on XRP Ledger

In the October 27 announcement, the companies describe a proposed C2FO Instant Pay service that would use participating capital providers to fund accelerated supplier payments and settle them using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger. C2FO says its existing early-payment programs have facilitated more than $520 billion in working capital over time, but that historical cumulative amount is not the dollar volume already settled on XRP Ledger.

Companies should distinguish approval, financing and settlement. An invoice being approved does not mean its debtor can or will settle immediately. C2FO aims to organize financing and determine which invoices qualify; the digital asset network is proposed as the payment rail for the resulting transfer.

Why instant settlement is not instant credit approval

Suppliers often trade a discount or financing cost for receiving funds before the contractual invoice due date. The invoice amount, terms and credit risk still matter. Moving the payment over a blockchain may reduce settlement time, but it cannot itself assess the buyer’s financial health or guarantee that the receivable is genuine.

The initiative is designed to keep the supplier’s commercial experience familiar while changing the back-end movement of funds. A supplier might still submit or approve invoices through C2FO, while capital providers use RLUSD for settlement behind the scenes.

XRP Ledger can confirm transactions quickly, but operational end-to-end payment time also includes stablecoin acquisition, compliance checks, payout arrangements and any conversion into the local fiat currency that the recipient ultimately needs.

The companies say businesses interested in Instant Pay can join a waitlist. That makes it inappropriate to describe the system as a fully deployed global payment network with a documented amount of live customer settlement volume.

What supply-chain finance users should verify

Businesses considering such a service need details about eligibility, onboarding jurisdictions, fees, recourse provisions, dispute procedures and the treatment of stablecoins held temporarily before conversion. If a supplier ultimately receives fiat, someone still bears exchange-rate and conversion execution responsibilities.

The financial claim represented by an invoice is not the same asset as the RLUSD used to pay against it. The stablecoin may be a settlement medium, while the receivable remains a claim subject to contractual rights and debtor-credit risk. Tokenizing payment rails does not automatically tokenize the underlying invoice.

This is a useful test case because there is a real commercial flow to improve, rather than a newly invented speculative token use case. The strongest evidence will be reduced settlement time and costs in operating programs, together with disclosure of how funds and liabilities are protected when a payment fails or is disputed.

For XRP holders, there is no sound basis to derive a token price target from the announcement. The relevant story is whether blockchain settlement can fit safely and economically into established trade-finance operations.
