Ethereum News: Pando Hacker Buys ETH, THORChain Halts, Binance Reopens

Ethereum news today shows a market pulled in two directions. Whales are buying, while a wallet tied to an old exploit moves funds through Tornado Cash.

THORChain paused trading after a reorg, and Binance is reopening withdrawals. So why are big buyers stepping in now?

Why Did the Pando Rings Hacker Buy $17 Million in ETH?

Ember Monitoring links a wallet to the Pando Rings exploit from four years ago, which involved about $22 million in stolen assets. According to its report, the wallet spent 16.98 million DAI to buy 7,548 tokens at about $2,249. It then sent 4,000 ETH, worth about $9.22 million, through Tornado Cash.

The link to the old exploit comes from Ember Monitoring. The report does not say the new purchase used stolen funds. You can review the wallet on Arkham.

How Ethereum Block Reorganization Trigger THORChain 10 ETH Incident?

On October 31 at 11:34 UTC, the Ethereum network had a one-block reorg. A 10-coin deposit sat in a dropped block and never reached the canonical chain. THORChain had already credited it.

The swap then missed its price limit and was refunded. The vault paid out 10 coins it never received. Its solvency checker caught the gap and halted ETH swaps. Node operators stopped signing within about two minutes. The user later returned the 10 coins.

This was not an Ethereum protocol hack. It was a confirmation issue in how THORChain handled a reorg. It is also not tied to any latest Ethereum upgrade.

Which Blockchains Remain Active After THORChain Emergency Halt?

Node operators halted all chains as a precaution while developers investigate. Four networks can still trade: AVAX, BASE, RUNE and XRP Ledger.

Ten networks are halted: ATOM, BCH, BSC, BTC, DOGE, Ethereum, LTC, Solana (SOL), TRON and ZEC. Core developers are working on fixes. Nodes will decide when each chain returns after security checks.

Binance Restores Selected ETH Withdrawals: What Can Users Access Now?

The exchange has restored withdrawals on five networks:

More assets and networks will return in phases once security checks finish. Co-CEO Yi He said Binance must work with US companies to freeze and recover assets. She also said US law enforcement acted efficiently.

This does not mean every service is back to normal. Only the options listed above are confirmed. Follow the official Binance announcement for updates.

Why Are Ethereum Whales Buying More Than 27,000 ETH?

Lookonchain reports that whale 0x9EcA spent $62.97 million over five hours to buy 27,553 tokens. The average price was about $2,286. Earlier, the same wallet used 37.96 million USDC to buy 16,658 ETH at about $2,279.

EmberCN separately reported a 15,216-coin purchase with 34.69 million USDC. That USDC was withdrawn from Kraken the same morning. The address matches the one in the Lookonchain report.

Whales are accumulating, but that is an on-chain signal, not proof of a rally. Any Ethereum news prediction should be treated with care. For more context, read our Ethereum price analysis.

What Should Ethereum Holders Watch After These Developments?

Keep an eye on five things:

  • Whether THOR nodes reopen the halted chains

  • Whether Binance adds more withdrawal options

  • Whether the Pando Rings wallet moves more coins

  • Whether whale buying continues

  • How the price reacts

Watching these will help you read the next round of Ethereum update news. For ongoing coverage, see our Ethereum news hub.

Timeline: Four years ago, the Pando Rings exploit. October 31, the reorg and THOR halt. November 1, Binance’s partial restoration. November 2, THORChain’s explanation and the whale and hacker transactions. Exact November 2 timestamps should be confirmed on-chain.

Conclusion

This Ethereum news ties together four stories: whale buying, an old hacker’s moves, THORChain’s halt, and Binance recovery. Together they show strong buying interest and ongoing cross-chain security risk for the Ethereum network.
