Chainlink 24/7 now prices tokenized stocks at weekends: what changes for investors in Germany

Until two days ago, tokenized stocks had a weekend problem: as soon as Wall Street closed on Friday evening, a tokenized Apple or Nvidia share no longer had a live market price. Since October 29, 2026, Chainlink has closed that gap. The service is called Chainlink 24/7 and delivers continuous price data for tokenized real-world assets, including on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The launch partner is Aave, the largest lending protocol in decentralized finance.
For you as an investor in Germany, three things matter: the weekend price comes from a different source than the price at midday on a Tuesday. Loans against tokenized stocks can now be liquidated on a Saturday too. And in the EU, tokenized stocks are governed not by the rulebook for crypto-assets but by securities law. The Chainlink price reacted clearly the day after: LINK traded at $11.76 on the evening of October 31, 2026, 5.35 percent above its level 24 hours earlier.
What Chainlink 24/7 is and which gap the service closes
Chainlink is an oracle network. In the blockchain world, oracle means a service that prepares data from outside a blockchain so that a program on the blockchain can use it. Without an oracle, a lending contract on Ethereum does not know what a share costs.
Until now, Chainlink offered a service called 24/5 for US stocks. It covered the trading week, including pre-market and after-hours trading and the overnight bridge. What was missing was the weekend. That is exactly where Chainlink 24/7 comes in: according to the company, the service covers the period from 8 pm New York time on Friday to 8 pm New York time on Sunday, as well as exchange holidays. Tokenized stocks, commodities and funds are covered.
An asset does not enter the service automatically. Chainlink sets the condition that an underlying asset must meet certain requirements for market coverage, liquidity and price consistency. The announcement does not give a complete list of which assets these are.
Friday 8 pm to Sunday 8 pm New York time: the weekend gap
These 48 hours are the real subject of the innovation. For an ordinary share in a securities account, a weekend pause in prices is irrelevant, because trading also stops. With a tokenized share it is different: the token itself can be transferred, lent and posted as collateral around the clock. The blockchain does not take weekends off; the exchange of origin does.
This asymmetry has so far created a practical problem. A lending protocol that accepts a tokenized share as collateral has to be able to value it. If the last price was 48 hours old, the only choice was between a stale value and very generous collateral haircuts. Both cost money: the stale value creates risk, the large haircut creates idle capital.
Why this is not just a niche issue
Chainlink puts the holdings already priced with extended trading hours through its predecessor service 24/5 at more than $1.6 billion in tokenized stocks, spread across six blockchains, by its own account. That is small compared with the traditional stock market, but it is growing and is the reason a dedicated service for the off-hours pays off at all.
Where the price comes from when the exchange is closed
This is the most important point of the entire service, technically and practically. Chainlink assembles an asset's price series from two building blocks. During regular, extended and overnight trading hours, the service draws on the existing session data from 24/5. As soon as the traditional market closes, the source changes: the service then forms the price from quotes on several major trading venues for perpetual futures.
Perpetual futures are futures contracts without an expiry date that track the price of an underlying asset. They trade continuously, including at weekends. The Saturday price is therefore not a price from the closed exchange but the price of a derivative on the same underlying. According to Chainlink, it filters out stale inputs and limits the influence of individual outliers.
This difference is no technicality for you. A derivative price can deviate from the exchange's opening price on Monday, because different participants with different motives are active in the futures market. Anyone making a decision at the weekend on the basis of this price is doing so on a different footing than on a Wednesday.

Data Feeds and Data Streams: two delivery channels for the same price series
Chainlink delivers the data through two channels that serve different applications.
Data Feeds publish the price directly on the blockchain. Lending protocols read it from there. This route is slower, but the value sits verifiably on the blockchain and is the same for all parties. Data Streams provide the data off the blockchain with lower latency. Prediction markets and exchanges for perpetual contracts use this route. The reports there also state the current trading session and, during open sessions, the bid and ask prices.
For valuing loan collateral, the first route is the decisive one, and that is exactly the one the launch partner uses.
Aave Horizon as launch partner: tokenized US stocks as loan collateral
Aave is the official launch partner of Chainlink 24/7. In the announcement, Chainlink describes Aave as the largest lending market in decentralized finance, with total value locked of more than $34 billion. That figure comes from the announcement itself and is not an independent survey.
The data is used on Horizon, Aave's platform for institutional borrowers. There, qualified investors can take out loans against tokenized real-world assets. The rollout starts with high-volume US stocks. Stani Kulechov, founder and CEO of Aave, is quoted in the announcement as saying that with Chainlink 24/7, Aave can "reliably value RWA collateral through weekends and holidays".
Important for context: Horizon is aimed at qualified and institutional investors, not retail clients. As a private investor in Germany, you generally cannot simply open an account there. For you, the change therefore works indirectly at first, through the valuation of products, through the LINK price and through the template it sets for other protocols. Our overview of crypto lending shows how lending protocols and centralized providers compare.
What Chainlink says it covers in the oracle market
Its market position explains why such an announcement moves the price. In the announcement, Chainlink cites the following figures, each as its own claim: the network's oracles secure around 70 percent of decentralized finance. They supply more than 80 percent of lending markets on Ethereum and Solana. They underpin more than 81 percent of the tokenized value of real-world assets. And in 2026 they have enabled more than $1 trillion in trading volume in perpetual contracts.
These figures come from the provider and have not been confirmed by an independent body. They do show the direction, though: whoever supplies price data for tokenized real-world assets sits at a point through which a large share of capital flows will pass in future.

LINK price on October 31: $11.76 after a 5.35 percent gain in 24 hours
As of the evening of October 31, 2026, LINK traded at $11.76, according to CoinGecko. That is 5.35 percent more than 24 hours earlier. On a weekly view it is up 2.11 percent, but over 30 days it is down 17.6 percent. Market capitalisation was around $9.0 billion, ranking 15th in the overall market, and 24-hour trading volume was about $339 million. The 24-hour range ran from $11.07 to $11.76. LINK is 77.7 percent below its all-time high of $52.70 from May 9, 2021.
For comparison, the market that same evening: bitcoin was up around 1.2 percent, ether about 1.4 percent. LINK therefore moved considerably more than the overall market. AAVE, the launch partner's token, also gained, trading at $134.47, up 6.94 percent in 24 hours.
One caveat is important: the announcement was two days earlier, while the price rise fell on October 31. There is no proven cause-and-effect link between the two. What is documented is that this service launch is the most significant new development on the network and that LINK and AAVE were among the stronger performers in the top 50 on the same day. Nothing more can be said in good faith.
Tokenized stocks and MiCA: securities law applies here
This is where things get concrete for investors in Germany. A tokenized share in a US stock is legally not a crypto-asset within the meaning of the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. The regulation expressly excludes financial instruments from its scope. A token representing a share is a financial instrument and therefore falls under securities and securities trading law.
In practice, this means that the obligations of securities trading law apply to the distribution of such products, namely prospectus, disclosure and suitability requirements, not the licensing rules for crypto-asset service providers. If you want to check which obligations apply the other way round to conventional crypto providers, you will find the classification in our overview of MiCA obligations for crypto companies.
For you, this means one question to check before buying: under which licence does the provider operate, and what product are you actually getting? A tokenized share can be a security, a certificate on the share or a synthetic replica without a delivery claim. These three variants differ considerably in the event of insolvency.
Tax in Germany: two different rulebooks
Tax treatment follows the legal classification, and this is where most mistakes happen. For crypto-assets held as private assets, Germany applies the regime for private sales transactions with the familiar one-year holding period. For financial instruments, this regime specifically does not apply; there, the flat-rate withholding tax on capital income generally applies.
Anyone holding tokenized stocks should therefore not automatically assume the one-year holding period. Whether the holding period or the withholding tax applies in an individual case depends on the specific design of the product and belongs in front of a tax adviser, not in a rule of thumb. A tax tool with portfolio tracking helps you document transactions properly over the year; it does not, however, relieve you of the legal classification of the product.
Liquidation on a Saturday: what continuous prices change for leveraged positions
Continuous prices have a downside that the announcements say little about. A lending protocol liquidates a position when the value of the collateral falls below a set threshold. As long as no new price arrived at the weekend, that threshold could effectively not be breached. With a continuous price series, it can.
For the stability of the system, this is progress, because losses do not pile up until Monday. For the individual borrower, it shifts the situation: the time during which a position can go unwatched becomes shorter. Anyone working with leverage should expect that a margin call or forced liquidation may in future happen on a Saturday morning rather than only when the exchange opens.
Then there is the change of source described above. If the perpetual price falls further at the weekend than the spot market opens on Monday, a position will have been liquidated on the basis of a price that the exchange of origin never quoted. This risk is the cost of continuous valuation, and it belongs in every calculation involving collateral in tokenized assets.
Limits of the service: what Chainlink leaves open
Three points remain open after the announcement, and they are essential for any assessment. First, Chainlink gives no complete timetable for the further rollout. Second, there is no definitive list of covered underlying assets, only the criteria and the reference to high-volume US stocks as a start. Third, the robustness of the weekend price in a real stress phase has not yet been publicly demonstrated; the filters against stale inputs and outliers are described, but their effect on a turbulent weekend is not.
It is also known so far that, according to the company, the predecessor service 24/5 already supplies almost half of tokenized stocks with extended trading hours. For the other half, nothing changes with the new service for now.
Chainlink 24/7: at weekends the perp price counts, not the NYSE
On balance, the service launch is infrastructure news with tangible consequences for anyone who holds or borrows against tokenized stocks. Three steps make sense now:
- Clarify product and licence. Check the product sheet to see whether you hold a security, a certificate or a synthetic replica, and which supervisor the provider answers to. You will find a shortlist by licence and cost among the best crypto brokers.
- Recalculate your collateral buffer. If you have loans running against tokenized assets or crypto-assets, work through the liquidation threshold for a weekend without a spot market. The comparison of the best perp DEXs shows where liquidation thresholds and funding costs lie in derivatives trading.
- Check your trading route for LINK. If you want to track the development through the token itself, compare fees, custody and withdrawal options beforehand. The list of the best crypto exchanges gives an overview.
