In Brief:
- Ripple partnered with Coinbase to expand RLUSD access through institutional trading, settlement, custody services, and retail cryptocurrency platforms across America.
- Coinbase will support RLUSD transactions across XRPL, Base, and Ethereum, while Ripple provides liquidity to strengthen adoption on Base networks.
- RLUSD surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization as Ripple expanded its institutional stablecoin services through Coinbase’s established financial infrastructure.
Ripple has secured a major partnership with Coinbase, bringing its RLUSD stablecoin to one of the largest cryptocurrency trading platforms in the United States. The agreement expands institutional access to RLUSD through Coinbase’s trading, settlement, and custody services.
According to the October 28 announcement, Coinbase has introduced RLUSD across Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and its retail application. The integration allows institutional and retail customers to trade and manage the stablecoin through established Coinbase platforms.
Additionally, eligible customers can convert U.S. dollars and supported dollar-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at a 1:1 ratio. Coinbase also plans to introduce RLUSD support on its Global Exchange, including its use as collateral.
The partnership strengthens Ripple’s institutional distribution network by connecting RLUSD with Coinbase’s existing financial infrastructure. It also provides institutional clients with additional options for managing digital assets and executing transactions.
Ripple’s SVP of Stablecoins, Jack McDonald, emphasized the importance of expanding access through platforms that institutional investors already use.
“Institutional appetite for compliant, high-quality stablecoins is clear. The challenge is making them readily available through the platforms institutions already trust and use,” McDonald stated.

Coinbase Integration Expands RLUSD Institutional Trading and Custody Services
The agreement extends RLUSD availability across several institutional services, including execution, settlement, custody, and prime brokerage. Coinbase Institutional Co-CEO Brett Tejpaul welcomed the integration, emphasizing the growing demand for diversified payment options among institutional customers.
Beyond trading services, Coinbase will support RLUSD deposits and withdrawals across the XRP Ledger, Base, and Ethereum networks. This arrangement enables customers to transfer the stablecoin between supported blockchain ecosystems.
Furthermore, Ripple will provide liquidity on Base to support RLUSD transactions and expand its presence within the network. The integration also broadens RLUSD’s utility across spot trading, derivatives, and decentralized finance, complementing its existing institutional applications.
RLUSD Market Capitalization Surpasses $2.4 Billion Amid Growing Adoption
Since launching in December 2024, RLUSD has surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization, supported by adoption across cryptocurrency exchanges and financial institutions.
Ripple backs the stablecoin with reserves comprising U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries, and other cash equivalents. RLUSD also maintains dollar redemption arrangements designed to support institutional financial operations.
Meanwhile, McDonald and Tejpaul are scheduled to discuss institutional stablecoin adoption at Ripple Swell in New York on October 28. The Coinbase partnership expands RLUSD’s reach across U.S. cryptocurrency markets while strengthening its availability through institutional trading and custody infrastructure.
