Solana Price Slides to $89, First Test of the 200-Day Line Since August

The Solana price fell to its 200-day line on Thursday. At around 7:50 pm CET, SOL traded at roughly $89.36, or €79.56, 6.4 percent lower than 24 hours earlier. The daily low was $88.83, just below the 200-day moving average of $88.93. Solana had not been this close to the line since August: every daily price since August 20, 2026 had been above it.
The drop was not triggered by anything on the Solana blockchain. It came from outside, from the sell-off in chip and AI stocks on the Nasdaq, which pushed Bitcoin below $76,000 and set off a chain of liquidations across the crypto market. On top of that comes a headwind that has been holding Solana back for weeks: US spot ETFs on SOL are losing money. Ten days before the Breakpoint developer conference in London, the price is sitting at a level that many market participants are watching.
The price and average figures in this article are based on CoinGecko daily prices over the past 365 days. cryptoticker.io compiled this analysis itself on November 5, 2026.
Solana price on November 5: from $96.97 to $88.83 in 24 hours
Within a single day, Solana ran through the range between $96.97 and $88.83. The low came in the early evening, when Bitcoin and Ether also hit their daily lows. With a loss of 6.4 percent, SOL fell slightly more than Bitcoin at 5.5 percent and slightly less than Ether at 7.2 percent. For a coin with higher volatility, that is a normal ratio: when Bitcoin, the benchmark, falls, the large altcoins usually lose more.
The longer view is less comfortable. Over seven days the loss stands at 11.5 percent, over 30 days at 26.1 percent. Compared with a year ago, Solana is down 44.8 percent, and the record high of $293.31 from January 19, 2025 sits almost 70 percent above the current price. Market capitalisation is about $52.7 billion, which puts SOL in seventh place among the largest cryptocurrencies. Trading volume over the past 24 hours came to around $4.5 billion.
Since the September 26 high of $122.08, the price has given up a good quarter of its value. Thursday's move is therefore not an isolated outlier; it extends a downtrend that has been running for more than five weeks.
The 200-day line at $88.93: what the moving average measures
The 200-day line is the average of the closing prices over the past 200 days. It smooths out short-term swings and shows the long-term trend. As long as the price stays above it, the trend is considered intact; if it falls below it for a sustained period, many chart analysts take that as a sign that the long-term uptrend has broken. Because so many traders watch the same line, it often acts as support, meaning a zone where buyers step in more heavily.
For Solana, our own calculation puts this average at $88.93. The shorter 50-day line runs at $108.58, roughly $20 higher. The gap shows how sharply the price has fallen over the past seven weeks. The 50-day line has dropped markedly over that period, while the 200-day line moves far more slowly.
One point matters for context: a single daily low below the line is not yet a break. What counts are the closing prices of the coming days. In August, Solana reclaimed the line from below: on August 19, SOL traded at $77.00, under the average of $81.60 at the time, and one day later at $85.33, above it. Since then the price had kept its distance on the upside, until it met the line on Thursday.

Nasdaq chip sell-off: why Solana falls with Bitcoin and Ether
The trigger came from Wall Street. According to Crypto Briefing, a sharp sell-off in AI and semiconductor stocks spilled over into riskier assets. At the time of that report, the Nasdaq was down around 3.5 percent and the S&P 500 more than 2.3 percent. Nvidia lost 6.5 percent, Micron more than 12 percent and AMD more than 13 percent. Later figures were higher: in the evening, Crypto News Flash cited a Nasdaq loss of more than 5 percent and around 16 percent for AMD. The spread reflects the different times at which the reports were published.
Crypto Briefing cites several reasons: concern about tighter oversight of AI data centres after the Democrats won both chambers of Congress in the midterms, doubts about the return on the heavy investment in AI infrastructure, and weak numbers from the chip sector. Qualcomm, for example, fell around 9 percent after its outlook for smartphone chips disappointed.
For Solana the same applies as for the crypto market as a whole: since Bitcoin ETFs and large funds entered the market, cryptocurrencies have moved more closely in step with technology stocks. When funds cut risk, both markets are hit at once. Solana has a higher beta than Bitcoin, meaning it reacts more strongly to moves in the overall market. Our newsroom has summarised the background to the Bitcoin slump in the article on the Bitcoin crash below $76,000.
Liquidations above $1 billion: how leverage amplifies the decline
A liquidation is the forced closure of a leveraged position by the exchange as soon as the posted collateral no longer covers the losses. Anyone betting on rising prices with leverage who then sees the price fall loses the position automatically. The exchange sells at market price, and those very sales push the price down further. That is the chain reaction that played out on Thursday.
According to CoinGlass data cited by Crypto News Flash, leveraged positions worth $1.06 billion were closed within 24 hours. Of that, $931.96 million came from bets on rising prices, close to nine out of every ten dollars. According to Crypto Briefing, more than $574 million was wiped out within a single hour, over $540 million of it on the long side. Solana was not among the coins with the largest individual amounts; Crypto News Flash writes that even contracts on SanDisk shares saw heavier liquidations than Solana.
If you trade with leverage yourself, you should know the liquidation price of every position. It depends on the leverage, the margin type and the entry price. Leverage of ten means that a countermove of roughly ten percent can wipe out the entire collateral, which for Solana is less than the decline of a single week. Platforms for perpetual futures, meaning futures contracts with no expiry date, differ in fees, maximum leverage and protection mechanisms. The comparison of decentralised perp exchanges gives an overview.
Solana ETFs in the US: four straight weeks of outflows
Separately from Thursday, a second factor is weighing on the price. According to SoSoValue data cited by CoinTurk on November 2, US spot ETFs on Solana lost a net $71.47 million in the previous week. That was the largest weekly outflow since the products launched and already the fourth consecutive week with a negative balance.
ETF flows matter more for Solana than they used to, because the funds are the most convenient route in for institutional investors. When money leaves them, a buyer goes missing that was still showing up regularly in the summer. How flows develop this week after the price slide is an open question; only the weekly balance gives a reliable picture.
For investors in Germany, the US funds have a practical limit: without a key information document under the European PRIIPs regulation, most German banks and brokers do not offer US ETFs to retail clients. Anyone who wants to hold SOL in a securities account there turns to exchange-traded products such as ETPs and ETNs. The routes available are explained in the guide to crypto ETFs and ETPs in Germany.

Breakpoint London, November 15 to 17: a date with no automatic price effect
The next fixed date in the Solana calendar is Breakpoint. According to Solana Compass, the Solana Foundation's annual conference takes place in London for the first time from November 15 to 17, 2026, at the Olympia exhibition hall. A hacker house for developers is already running in the city in the run-up.
Conferences bring announcements, for example on network upgrades, new partners or usage figures. Even so, there is no automatic price effect. Whether good news feeds through into the price depends on how the overall market behaves until then. If Bitcoin keeps falling, project news tends to get lost. If the market stabilises, the conference could be the moment buyers return. What was reported about Solana itself in October and early November, such as the planned Alpenglow upgrade, concerns the technology and does little to change the short-term market picture.
Solana price levels: $88.90 below, $108.60 above
The daily prices point to several levels at which, in the view of many traders, the next move will be decided. These levels are reference points, not a forecast.
- $88.83 to $88.93: Thursday's daily low and the 200-day line. If Solana closes below it for several days, many analysts will consider the long-term trend broken.
- $77.00: the daily close on August 19, before the price reclaimed the 200-day line in the summer.
- $62.18: the low of the year based on daily prices, from June 7, 2026.
- $96.97: the 24-hour high before the slump, the first hurdle on the upside.
- $108.58: the 50-day line. Only above it would the downtrend of recent weeks have reversed.
- $122.08: the high of September 26.
The levels on the downside are far apart. Based on the daily prices of recent months, there has been little trading between $89 and $77 that support could rest on. That makes the 200-day line particularly important in these days. Our newsroom's view of the further path and the scenarios is on the Solana price prediction page.
Solana tax and MiCA: holding period, staking and regulated exchanges
For investors in Germany, a price slide raises tax questions above all. Under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act, cryptocurrencies count as private sales transactions. Gains and losses from a sale within one year of purchase are relevant for tax; after that, the sale is tax-free. Gains remain tax-free as long as all private sales gains in a year together stay below the exemption limit of €1,000. If you sell at a loss within the one-year period, you can offset that loss against gains from other private sales transactions. Once the period has expired, a loss also has no tax effect.
Specialised software helps to record purchase dates, cost basis and sales across several exchanges. The comparison of crypto tax tools provides an overview.
If you hold Solana in staking, you receive rewards in SOL. These are taxed as other income when they are received, and their euro value falls with the price. When buying, it pays to check the licence: since the European MiCA regulation came into force, crypto exchanges serving customers in the EU need a licence as a crypto-asset service provider. Which providers have one is shown in the overview of regulated crypto exchanges.
Solana ahead of Breakpoint: the 200-day line remains the yardstick
Solana is sitting at a level that will help decide the trend of the coming weeks. Ten days remain until the conference in London. Three steps help you put the price slide in order:
- Look up your purchase date and holding period. Note for every SOL position when the one-year period ends before you sell in a hurry. A tracker from the tax tool comparison handles this across all exchanges.
- Check leverage and liquidation price. If you hold Solana futures, choose leverage and collateral so that a further ten percent decline does not close the position. The differences between platforms are set out in the perp DEX comparison.
- Decide how to buy and where to keep your coins. If you want to buy more, use an exchange with a MiCA licence and decide beforehand whether the coins stay there or go into staking. Providers and terms are listed in the exchange comparison.
