Chainlink in Korea's $68 Billion Market, LINK Falls to $11.47: Why the Price Is Not Moving

The established facts: South Korea's IT group LG CNS announced a partnership with Chainlink on 22 October 2026 and is building its price and transfer services into its own digital asset platform. Our assessment follows further below: for the LINK price, this contract is for now an announcement without a revenue stream, and the price is behaving accordingly.
LINK trades at $11.47 on Friday afternoon, as of 24 October at around 4.50pm Central European time. That is 4.8 percent below the previous day and 3.8 percent below a week ago (data: CoinGecko). The day's high stood at $12.07. The token is 78.2 percent below its record of $52.70 and ranks 16th by market capitalisation, at $8.80 billion on 766.8 million circulating tokens out of a cap of one billion.
What LG CNS has agreed with Chainlink
LG CNS is the LG group's IT services arm and builds the software that runs in the background for banks and public authorities in South Korea. On 6 October 2026 the company launched its own digital asset platform; the partnership statement gives it the name KITL. Chainlink supplies two components for it: Data Streams, meaning continuously updated price data, and CCIP, the service that moves value across blockchains.
An oracle, in this context, is the service that feeds a blockchain a value it does not know by itself, such as the price of a bond or a currency. Without that value, a contract on the blockchain cannot calculate. That is precisely what Chainlink sells, and precisely what LG CNS is buying.
The statement names won stablecoins and tokenised securities as the fields of use. What it does not name matters just as much: it sets no date for a commercial launch, and it names no single financial institution that will use the infrastructure. The partnership announcement describes an intention, not a running operation.
LG CNS is also the prime contractor on Project Hangang, the Bank of Korea's digital currency trial, whose first phase covered roughly 80,000 customers at seven banks. That Hangang forms part of this agreement is not something the available statements say. Pulling the two together adds to the contract something it does not contain.
Korea's market in numbers: $68 billion and 11 million users
Reports on the partnership consistently cite a target market of $68 billion and more than eleven million registered users in South Korea. For comparison: LINK's entire market capitalisation stands at $8.80 billion. The addressable market is therefore about eight times the size of the token under discussion.
Behind this sits a legislative process. South Korea is working on rules for digital assets and for won-denominated stablecoins; on 23 October the country classified stablecoins as an official means of payment. An IT services provider that already has the technology in place when the rules take effect sells it more easily. That explains the timing of the announcement better than any price move.
Archax takes the price data for tokenised Treasuries
A second piece of news came three days before the Korea contract. UK trading venue Archax announced on 19 October 2026 that it is using Chainlink Data Streams for GOVY, its tokenised product on short-dated US Treasuries. The bonds are held one for one at Northern Trust as custodian, according to Archax, and the product rolls continuously: as one bond matures, a new short-dated one takes its place.
The purpose of the price data is technical and worth spelling out. A tokenised bond on a blockchain is at first no more than an entry. For an automated lending system to accept it as collateral, it needs a reliable value to calculate against, continuously. The oracle service supplies that value. Only then does the entry become collateral that a program can value and, if need be, liquidate.
GOVY is distributed on Ethereum, Hedera and Stellar, according to the statements. For retail investors in Germany the product is not an option: access is restricted to accredited investors and whitelisted wallets, and transfer restrictions apply. The detail is set out in the Archax announcement.

Where things stand on price: $12.07 as the day's high
Three pieces of news in six days, and the price has fallen through all three. Chainlink took its ACE service to Japan on 18 October, Archax followed on 19 October and LG CNS on 22 October. In our 22 October article on the quarterly report, LINK stood at $11.94; today it is $11.47, 3.9 percent lower in two days. The $11.94 level, the reference point back then, has not held.
Three levels can be argued for the coming days. On the upside, the day's high of $12.07 is the first hurdle, with $11.94 above it as the level regained at the start of the week. On the downside, the round $11.00 mark is the next support, below which there was no trading at all in October so far. Daily turnover stands at $221.0 million, about 2.5 percent of market capitalisation. That is thin enough for single larger sales to move the price, and too thin for an announcement without buyers to carry it.
The reserve's daily purchase stays below half a percent of turnover
The Chainlink Reserve, which collects LINK out of usage fees, is often set against the price weakness. The mechanism is called Payment Abstraction: fees that customers pay in other currencies are converted into LINK and placed in the reserve. It is not a buyback from a corporate treasury, even though many reports use that word.
The order of magnitude can be worked out, and it explains more than any description of sentiment. According to analysis by Onchain Lens cited on 22 October 2026, the reserve held about 6.38 million LINK worth roughly $76.14 million and added 88,400 LINK that day; over 30 days the figure was 422,900 LINK. An earlier count from 15 October gives 6.29 million LINK at an acquisition cost of around $70.76 million. The range stands as it is, with nothing smoothed over here.
Measured against the market, that works out as follows. The daily purchase of 88,400 LINK is worth about $1.01 million at today's price. That is 0.46 percent of today's turnover of $221.0 million. The entire reserve holding of 6.38 million LINK accounts for 0.83 percent of supply, the monthly purchase for 0.055 percent. A buyer of that size absorbs a quiet day. It does not absorb a day of broad selling pressure, and that is why good news and falling prices can sit side by side here.
Our assessment: the contract bites at the first launch date, not before
In the editorial team's view the Korea news is immaterial for the price over a horizon of weeks, and three documented points support that. First, the statement names no commercial launch date. Second, it names no institution actually deploying the infrastructure. Third, fees at Chainlink flow only once data is called and value is moved, which is to say in operation and not at signature.
One equally documented point argues the other way: Project Pangea, the working group launched in June 2026 with more than 50 banks from 16 countries, targets same-day settlement instead of two days and likewise relies on CCIP and Data Streams. Add Korea, Japan and the United Kingdom together and a pattern emerges in which the same provider is written into several jurisdictions. On a horizon of years, that reads as a build-up of dependency. On a horizon of weeks, it delivers nothing. This is an assessment of the situation, not a recommendation to buy or sell; with crypto assets a total loss remains possible at any time.
Buying LINK in Germany: exchange, ETP or self-custody
Anyone buying LINK in Germany has three routes, and they differ not in the price but in cost, custody and tax. The first route is a crypto exchange licensed under MiCA, the EU regulation for crypto service providers. There the token sits in the provider's custody, and the spread plus the order fee set the entry price. A look at spread and daily volume before placing an order pays off more at $221.0 million of turnover than it does with Bitcoin; which venues are licensed in Germany and what they charge is set out in our overview of the best crypto exchanges.
The second route is an exchange-traded product held in an ordinary securities account. That is convenient, because no second account is needed, and it carries a tax catch we come to shortly. What to watch with crypto-based products of this kind is gathered in our guide to crypto ETFs and ETPs in Germany. The third route is self-custody: buy on an exchange, then withdraw to your own wallet. You then hold the token yourself, but you also carry the risk on the private key alone.
The rules under which a provider may operate in Germany at all have followed the MiCA framework with transitional periods since 2026. What providers must demonstrate, and by when, is set out in our overview of the MiCA licensing obligations.

Holding period and tax: the 31 December cut-off stands
Here lies the difference between the buying routes, and for investors in Germany it is the most concrete point in this article. Hold LINK directly and you sell under section 23 of the German Income Tax Act, as a private disposal. After a holding period of one year the gain is tax free; inside the year it counts at your personal rate, and an exemption threshold of 1,000 euros applies to all private disposals in a single year taken together. Threshold means exactly that: one euro above it and the entire gain is taxable, not merely the excess.
That holding period was up for debate in 2026 and remains so. The Bundestag rejected its abolition on 9 October 2026 by 445 votes to 132, as we reported on the day; a cabinet date passed in mid-October without a decision, and the federal finance ministry left it at the formulation that the matter remains to be seen. We track the current state on our page on the crypto holding period and its reform. For this year that means the one-year period applies, and 31 December remains the cut-off that decides which tax year a sale falls into.
With an exchange-traded product in a securities account, by contrast, the 25 percent flat-rate withholding tax plus solidarity surcharge generally applies, regardless of holding period. In exchange, the saver's allowance is available. Which route works out cheaper depends on whether you intend to hold for longer than a year. In practice, direct ownership requires the date, the quantity and the price for each purchase, because the period runs per tranche. Tools that pull this together from exchange data are compared in our review of crypto tax software and portfolio trackers. None of that replaces tax advice, and you still gather the records yourself.
Staking and custody: what is possible with LINK
Chainlink runs a staking platform of its own, where holders deposit tokens and receive rewards in return. Provider Everstake puts capacity at 45 million LINK in its guide as of 21 May 2026, describes the community portion of it as fully taken up, and gives the unbonding period as 28 days followed by a seven-day claim window. These figures come from the service provider and not from Chainlink itself; free capacity can only be established from the platform's live status.
Two things follow regardless of the exact number. First, staked holdings are not immediately available, which at a period of that length can decide the timing of a sale. Second, German tax law treats rewards from such services as other income at the moment of receipt, not as part of the capital gain. Stake, and you have two items in your tax return instead of one.
On custody the usual yardstick applies: on an exchange, access is fast and counterparty risk is real; in your own wallet it is the other way round. LINK is a token on Ethereum and on further blockchains; on withdrawal, the blockchain you choose determines the fee and whether the receiving address fits at all. An address on the wrong blockchain costs you the amount.
Chainlink at $11.47: without a KITL launch date the trigger is missing
The contract is documented; the revenue stream from it is not. As long as no launch date and no using institution are named, the Korea news remains a building block for the years ahead rather than for the week. Three steps follow from it:
- Note the levels. On the upside $12.07 as the day's high and $11.94 as the level from the start of the week, on the downside the round $11.00 mark. Before placing an order it pays to look at spread and daily volume at the crypto exchanges compared, because $221.0 million of daily turnover makes any larger order visible.
- Settle the buying route before you buy. Direct ownership with the one-year period or an exchange-traded product with withholding tax, because there is no swapping the two after the fact. The differences for products in a securities account are set out in our guide to crypto ETFs and ETPs.
- Secure the purchase data per tranche. The date, the quantity and the price of every single tranche, so that the one-year period to 31 December can be evidenced. The review of tax software and portfolio trackers shows which tools pull the data straight from the exchanges.
