Litecoin traded at $51.73 at 18:23 UTC, down 7.9% in 24 hours, 11.8% in seven days and 26% in 30 days (CoinGecko). Bitcoin lost 5.6% over the same 24 hours. The trigger came from outside: a Nasdaq chip rout that hit every large coin.

The full background is in our piece on the Bitcoin crash. Here is what it means for LTC: which levels count, what could change the picture and how to hedge.

Why Is Litecoin Down? It Follows Bitcoin

We found no Litecoin-specific trigger for Thursday's drop. The daily returns of LTC and Bitcoin over the past 30 days have a correlation of 0.89 by our calculation from Binance data, so LTC mostly follows the market. Liquidations of leveraged longs across crypto added pressure. For the project itself, recent news includes how the Litecoin halving works.

On October 21 Litecoin still cost $61.47, when the Canary Litecoin ETF had just taken in $581,140, its first inflow after seven flat trading days. Measured against that level the coin is now about 16% lower.

Litecoin Price: The Levels That Count Now

Litecoin sits almost exactly on its 200-day average, which makes the next closes the real test.

LevelWhat it is
$61.8450-day average
$52.18200-day average
$51.73Price now
$51.3430-day low (Binance)
$410.26All-time high, down 87% since then

Our assessment, not a forecast: as long as Bitcoin holds the $75,000 area, a move back toward the 50-day average stays possible. If that area breaks, the 30-day low is the first level at risk.

How to Hedge and Earn on Litecoin in This Market

Remove leverage first, because a falling price then lowers only your book value. A stablecoin share or a short of the same size reduces the risk, with its own costs. Buying in small instalments spreads your entry price. Short positions earn on falling prices but can wipe out your margin quickly. Details are in our Bitcoin crash guide.

Where Can You Buy Litecoin?

Our comparisons of regulated exchanges and crypto brokers set out fees and features for Litecoin and other coins. Three common platforms, with partner links; check that LTC is offered in your country:
