Solflare Issues Urgency Alert After Security Incident: What SOL Stakers Need to Know

Solflare, the non-custodial Solana wallet with roughly four million monthly active users, has temporarily halted staking rewards following a security incident at its third-party infrastructure provider. The wallet provider confirmed that user funds remain completely untouched.

The wallet confirmed in an official release on X that its external staking provider reported a security incident affecting the keys used to operate the Solflare validator node.

The investigation is ongoing; the validator has been taken offline and is currently unable to process transactions or generate staking yield.

Solflare said delegated SOL sits in each user’s own stake account and is controlled solely by the user’s keys.

"Your SOL is safe. Delegated stake sits in your own stake account and is controlled by your keys alone; the Solana protocol does not allow a validator, or anyone holding its keys, to move it," Solflare stated in its message on X:

Solflare is currently provisioning a new, secure validator node to replace the affected infrastructure. To resume earning yield, stakers will eventually need to migrate their delegated SOL to the new node.

The wallet provider emphasized that users do not need to take any immediate manual action. An upcoming software update within the official Solflare app will provide a automated, step-by-step path to move stake over to the new validator once it is live.

To address the temporary yield disruption, Solflare announced that it is finalizing a compensation model for all users who complete the guided migration process once the new validator goes operational.

Launched in 2020, Solflare was the first wallet specifically built for the Solana network. Since then, it has been one of the most used wallets in the Solana ecosystem. Its pitch has centered on letting users stake SOL without giving up control of their assets.

The incident has not weighed on Solana (SOL) market metrics. SOL gained 2.7% over the past 24 hours and traded at $102.68 on Wednesday morning, European time.

Markets have so far shown no sign of concern over the staking provider breach, as user funds remain in self-custody.

The Solflare incident highlights that third-party staking infrastructure remains an operational vulnerability in PoS ecosystems, even when user funds are protected by self-custody architecture.
