How to Read the Crypto Bubbles Chart

The chart turns the market into a single picture. Instead of scanning a list of a thousand rows, you see size, direction and magnitude at once — which coins are large, which moved, and how far.

What bubble size means

By default, bubble size is market capitalisation, so Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate the field and the long tail sits at the edges. Switching size to 24h volume changes the picture: coins with small market caps but heavy trading appear larger, which is usually where short-term attention is. Sizing by absolute price change instead gives every coin an equal starting point and surfaces movers regardless of how large they are.

What bubble colour means

Colour is price change over the selected timeframe — green for gains, red for losses, with a neutral colour for unchanged or unavailable returns. A screen that is uniformly one colour tells you the market is moving together. A mixed screen means dispersion, and dispersion is where the interesting coins are.

Choosing a timeframe

The 1-hour and 24-hour views show reaction — news, liquidations, a single large trade. The 7-day and 30-day views show trend, and are more useful for spotting which sectors capital is rotating into. The 1-year view gives a longer perspective where enough price history is available. Custom charts also offer 1-minute, 5-minute, 15-minute, 4-hour and 3-month periods.

For more context, explore the total crypto market cap chart.

Filtering by sector and market cap

Filtering to a sector answers a different question from filtering by size. Sector filters show whether a theme is moving as a group — a whole category glowing green may reflect a shared market driver. Market-cap bands separate large-cap moves, which need real capital, from small-cap moves, which don't. Stablecoins are included. Use categories or a custom watchlist to focus on a different set of assets.

How to Use Crypto Bubbles

Spotting rotation between sectors

Set the timeframe to 7 days and filter by sector one at a time, or size the bubbles by absolute change. When one category is consistently greener than the rest across several days, it may indicate relative strength. Price changes alone do not prove capital flows.

For more context, explore the Altcoin Season Index.

Finding outliers

The useful bubbles are the ones that disagree with their neighbours: a deep green bubble in a red field, or a large cap moving as hard as a small one. Those are the coins worth clicking through to. A large-cap coin moving double digits is a different kind of event from a micro-cap doing the same thing.

For more context, explore the Bitcoin dominance chart.

Checking one coin against the market

Search for a coin to filter the chart, then clear the search to compare its move with the wider market. A coin down 6% in a broadly falling market has a different context from the same move in a rising market; the chart alone does not establish the cause.

For more context, explore the Bitcoin price.

Is Crypto a Bubble?

"Crypto bubble" also has a second, unrelated meaning: the question of whether crypto asset prices are inflated beyond any reasonable value. That is a different subject from the chart above, and worth separating clearly.

What a speculative bubble is

A speculative bubble is a period where an asset's price rises well above what its underlying fundamentals support, driven by expectations of further price rises rather than by use or cash flow, and then falls sharply when those expectations reverse. Bubbles are easy to identify afterwards and genuinely contested while they are happening, which is why the question rarely has a settled answer.

Past crypto market cycles

Crypto has been through several severe drawdown cycles, including sharp declines after the 2013, 2017 and 2021 peaks, each of which was widely described at the time as a bubble bursting. The recovery has varied by asset, and many coins have never regained their previous highs. Past cycles do not establish the value or future performance of any coin.

For more context, explore the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart.

What the bubble chart does and doesn't tell you

The chart on this page measures price change, not value. It shows how the market is moving and where attention sits; it says nothing about whether any coin is worth what it trades at. A screen full of large green bubbles indicates a strong market, not a justified one — and the same picture appears in early trends and late blow-offs alike. Use it to see what is happening, and other tools to judge what it is worth.

This page provides market data for research purposes. It is not investment advice and no coin shown here is a recommendation.

For more context, explore the Crypto Fear and Greed Index.

Crypto Bubbles on Mobile and Desktop

The bubble chart runs in any mobile browser, and the CoinStats app for iOS, Android and macOS gives you the same live market data with portfolio tracking and price alerts. A macOS widget and Chrome extension keep prices on screen without opening a tab.

Methodology and Data Sources

Prices, market capitalisation and trading volumes come from CoinStats market-data endpoints and are requested once per minute while the page is open. One-hour, 24-hour, seven-day and 30-day changes use the available API fields; other periods use historical price samples. If the history does not cover the selected period, the return is omitted. Stablecoins are included. Prices follow your CoinStats currency setting, while percentage returns are measured against USD. Market capitalisation uses circulating supply.

Explore the CoinStats Crypto API for market data.

Data is provided for research and information purposes only. It is not investment advice, and nothing on this page is a recommendation to buy or sell any asset.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Crypto Bubbles?

Crypto Bubbles is a way of viewing the crypto market as a field of bubbles rather than a list. Each bubble is one coin: its size reflects market capitalisation or volume, and its colour reflects price change over the timeframe you pick. It shows the whole market's direction and dispersion in a single view.

How do I read the crypto bubble chart?

Size tells you scale and colour tells you direction. Green bubbles gained over the selected period and red ones fell. Neutral bubbles show unchanged or unavailable returns. Click or tap a bubble to open its price, market cap, volume and available price history, then follow the link to its CoinStats page.

Is Crypto Bubbles free?

Yes. The chart is free to use, with no account and no signup required.

How many coins does the chart show?

The chart starts with the top 100 coins by market-cap rank. Choose another 100-coin rank band, up to ranks 1,101–1,200, or use Show more below the table to extend the current set in batches of 100. Categories, exchanges, search and local watchlists narrow the displayed set.

Can I change what bubble size represents?

Yes. Size defaults to market capitalisation, and can be switched to 24h trading volume or absolute price change. Volume surfaces where activity is concentrated rather than where value is; absolute change gives every coin equal footing so movers stand out regardless of size.

What timeframes are available?

Presets cover one hour, 24 hours, one week, one month and one year. The chart editor also offers one minute, five minutes, 15 minutes, four hours and three months. Returns are shown only where enough data exists for the selected period; historical samples may not be available for every coin.

Is there a Crypto Bubbles app?

The chart works in any mobile browser, and the CoinStats app for iOS, Android and macOS covers the same market data alongside portfolio tracking, price alerts and charts. There is also a macOS widget and a Chrome extension for live prices without opening a tab.

How often does the data update?

Market prices and percentage changes are requested once per minute while the page is open. Market cap and volume are refreshed with the coin list. The timestamp above the chart records the last successful fetch. Shorter custom periods depend on available historical samples, rather than a real-time tick feed.

Is crypto a bubble?

That question is about valuation, not this chart. Crypto assets have experienced sharp boom-and-bust cycles, and recoveries have varied by asset. The bubble chart measures price change and market size; it does not measure whether prices are justified or predict future returns. A rising market is not proof of fundamental value.
