Sports prediction apps let you buy a contract on a game. It pays $1 if your side wins and $0 if it loses.
They look like sportsbooks, but they work like exchanges. You trade against other people, and the app charges a fee instead of building a margin into the odds.
Sports is also where the apps differ most. League depth, parlay rules, early selling and fees all vary from app to app.
And state law closes sports contracts in some places, for some apps. So the right app depends on what you trade, and where you live.
We ranked 14 sports apps on the method behind our ranking of every prediction market app, adjusted for sports. Every entry links the pages its facts come from.
Key takeaways
- ProphetX ranks first for sports with 5.0 out of 5.
- Player props are on 12 of the 14 apps, combos on all 14 and live trading on all 14.
- DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics offer sports contracts only in the states they list.
- Court orders close some apps' sports contracts in Michigan, Nevada and Washington, so check your state before you fund.
- On a $100 trade at 50¢, published fees run from $0.00 to $5.00, depending on the app.
First published October 1, 2026. Facts come from each app's own pages, each linked in its entry.
How we ranked them
We score every app from 0 to 5 on six criteria, with the same weights as our main ranking. Two of them change for sports.
Market coverage becomes sports depth, scored on the seven-item checklist below. State availability counts only the states closed to an app's sports contracts.
An item we could not confirm on the app's own pages scores as not offered. Ties go to the higher unrounded score, then to name order.
| Criterion | Weight | How it scores |
|---|---|---|
| Regulation | 25% | Its company owns or controls a CFTC-registered exchange that lists its contracts: 5. It only routes orders to other companies’ exchanges: 4. Not confirmed: 0. |
| Live, public prices | 20% | Live prices anyone can read without an account, on its website or a public API: 5. Prices only inside the app: 1. |
| Sports depth | 20% | One point per item on our 7-item sports checklist, scaled to 5. |
| Funding options | 15% | One point per rail: bank transfer, debit card, wire, a wallet such as PayPal, crypto. Five at most. |
| Published fees | 10% | Every fee a trade pays is published: 5. Only some are, such as a broker fee without the exchange fee: 2.5. None: 0. |
| Sports availability | 10% | Open for sports in every state: 5. Each state closed to its sports contracts costs half a point. |
The sports checklist
Each item is worth one point, and seven points make 5. We checked each app's own help pages and market lists.
- NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. Lists all four major US leagues.
- College sports. Lists college football or college basketball.
- Beyond the big four. Lists at least two more sports, such as soccer, tennis, golf or MMA.
- Spreads and totals. Offers point spreads and over/under totals, not only winners.
- Player props. Offers contracts on a player’s stats.
- Combos. Joins several legs into one contract, like a parlay.
- Live trading. Lets you buy or sell while the game is on.
What counts as an entry
An app US residents can use to trade CFTC-regulated sports event contracts, on its own exchange or through one.
We left out sportsbooks, daily fantasy contests and social prediction apps. PrizePicks and Underdog appear for their prediction markets, not their fantasy games.
Polymarket's international site is left out too, because from the US you can only close positions there. Polymarket US is ranked instead.

A sportsbook sets the odds, takes the other side of your wager and builds its margin into the price.
On a prediction market, other traders set the price. The app charges a published fee, and you can usually sell before the final whistle.
The oversight differs too. A sportsbook needs a license in each state. These apps answer to the CFTC, which is why they reach states with no legal sportsbook.
That federal status is exactly what several states dispute, mostly for sports. Here is how prediction markets differ from sports betting.
Where sports prediction markets are legal
Sports contracts are the contested ones. Several states call them unlicensed wagers, and federal appeals courts have split on whether states may act.
Court orders close Kalshi's sports contracts in Michigan, Nevada and Washington. Apps that route orders to Kalshi follow those orders too.
Sportsbook-owned apps list sports only in the states they name: 18 each for DraftKings and FanDuel, and 22 for Fanatics.
Here is each app's sports footprint, from its own terms and the court orders against it. Check legality in your state for the latest.
- ProphetX: Not operating in NV; other restricted locations are not named
- Kalshi: Court orders bar its sports contracts in MI, NV and WA, and more categories in NV and WA
- Gemini Predictions: Listed as available in all 50 states; Connecticut ordered it to stop sports contracts in September 2026
- Novig: Not available in AZ, MI or NV; 21 and over
- Polymarket US: A court order bars its sports contracts in NV
- OG: No sports in IL, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NV or OH, and no markets in AZ, per OG in June 2026

- Webull: No sports contracts in CT, MD, MI or NV; a Washington court order binds Kalshi, its exchange
- Fanatics Markets: Open in 22 states, plus Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands; 21 and over

Fees on a $100 sports trade
What each app charges to buy $100 of Yes at 50¢, which is 200 contracts, held to the final whistle.
Most exchange fees peak at 50¢ and shrink toward either end, so a heavy favorite costs less to trade.
| App | Fee on $100 at 50¢ | How sports trades are charged |
|---|---|---|
| ProphetX | $2.00 if it wins, $0 if not | 2% of net gains on straight trades, and nothing on a loss. Parlays pay a separate taker fee. |
| Kalshi | $3.50 | 0.07 × contracts × price × (1 − price). MLB games pay half, and game series also charge resting orders. |
| Gemini Predictions | $3.50 | 0.07 × contracts × price × (1 − price) for takers and 0.0175 for makers, rounded up. |
| Novig | $0.00 to $5.00 | Pre-game straight trades are free. Live takers pay 0.03 × contracts × price × (1 − price), or 0.06 on live college football spreads and totals. |
| Polymarket US | $3.48 | 0.0695 × contracts × price × (1 − price) for takers, and more on combos. Makers pay no fee. |
| OG | $3.50 | 0.07 × contracts × price × (1 − price) for takers and 0.0175 for makers. Nothing at settlement. |
| Robinhood | $2.00 to $4.00 | A commission of up to $0.01 a contract, plus an exchange fee of up to $0.01, on open and close. |

| DraftKings Predictions | Up to $4.00 | All-in, including the exchange fee: up to 2¢ a contract each way, less at the extremes. Each trade's total rounds up to the cent. |
| Underdog Predict | $2.00 + exchange fee | 1¢ a contract on each side, plus the exchange's fee. On Underdog's own exchange, takers pay 0.07 × contracts × price × (1 − price). |
| PrizePicks | $4.00 | A service fee of $0.005 to $0.02 a contract on each buy and sell, rounded up to the cent. |
| FanDuel Predicts | $4.00 | 2¢ a contract at checkout, at any price. Cashing out early costs 2¢ per dollar of the original potential payout. |
What the NFL and the CFTC want to change
Leagues are pushing back on some sports contracts, and NFL prediction markets are the main target. In March 2026, the NFL wrote to operators, Polymarket US and Kalshi among them, asking them to drop “objectionable” contracts.
Its list covers contracts one person could manipulate, contracts tied to officiating and contracts on injuries or misconduct. It renewed the request in September 2026, a week before the season.
The CFTC has a parallel plan. Its June 10, 2026 proposal would bar contracts on injuries, officiating calls and single in-game actions.
Comments closed on July 27, and no final rule has been issued. If it passes, some player props and in-game markets could disappear.
How to choose a sports prediction app
- Check your state first. Some apps close sports contracts in some states. Legality by state
- Match the sports you follow. Every app here covers the NFL. Fewer go deep on college, tennis, golf or soccer.
- Decide which market types you need. Props, parlays and live trading are common. Leg limits and early selling are not.
- Compare the fee on a typical trade. Near 50¢, a fee can cost more than a cent per contract. Fees compared
- Check the price first. The same game can be cheaper on another app. Live sports odds
How to start trading sports contracts
- Pick an app from the ranking that lists sports in your state.
- Verify your identity. Regulated apps check your ID and your location before you trade.
- Fund the account with a rail the app supports, such as a bank transfer or a debit card.
- Buy Yes or No on a game. The price is the market's probability, and a winning contract pays $1. How contracts work
- Sell early or hold. You can usually sell before the game ends, if someone will buy.
