Open Polymarket USWhy Polymarket is blocked in Nevada
Polymarket US opened to American traders in December 2025. About six weeks later, Nevada sued it.
The Gaming Control Board says a sports contract is a wager. Taking wagers in Nevada requires a gaming license, and Polymarket has none.
A Carson City judge agreed twice. He barred Polymarket in January with a restraining order, then granted the board an injunction on May 29, 2026.
Kalshi kept a partial menu in Nevada. Polymarket did not. Here is what that means for you.
What you can trade on Polymarket from Nevada
Nothing. Polymarket US does not operate in Nevada, so no market is open to you here.
That covers its whole menu: Golden Knights and Raiders games, the November elections, crypto prices and the rest.
The court order itself names sports, election and entertainment contracts. Polymarket US went further and left the state entirely.
The international site is no fix. Polymarket.com is close-only for Americans: you can exit old positions but not open new ones.
Polymarket US does serve California, across the line at Lake Tahoe. We found no Polymarket rule on whether a Nevada resident can trade while visiting there.
And a VPN is no fix either. Polymarket says using one to dodge a geographic block breaks its terms of service.
How Polymarket works outside Nevada
Every Polymarket contract is a yes-or-no question. It pays $1 if the answer is yes and nothing if it is no.
The price is the market's odds. A contract at 60¢ means traders put the chance at about 60%.
Say the Golden Knights are 60¢ to win tonight. On Polymarket US, 100 contracts cost $60, plus a taker fee of $1.67.
If they win, you collect $100, a $38.33 profit. If they lose, you are out $61.67.
That is the trade Nevada's order blocks. In most other states, Polymarket US lists it.
The fee is highest near 50¢ and shrinks toward either end. Our Polymarket fees page has every rate.
What Nevada has said about Polymarket
The Gaming Control Board laid out its case on January 16, 2026. Sports contracts, it said, are wagering under NRS 463.0193 and 463.01962.
It said Polymarket violates four statutes, including NRS 463.160, the provision Nevada cites against unlicensed gaming.
Chairman Mike Dreitzer welcomed the May ruling. The board will “continue to vigorously enforce Nevada law to safeguard gaming in our state,” he said.
Attorney General Aaron Ford put it more bluntly. Unlicensed prediction markets “may not disregard the law,” he said.
We found no public statement from Polymarket on the Nevada rulings. Its position elsewhere is that federal law, not state law, governs its exchange.
Nevada's lawsuit against Polymarket, explained
The board sued three companies in the District Court for Carson City. Blockratize Inc. runs the Polymarket app, and QCX LLC runs the Polymarket US exchange.
The third, Adventure One QSS Inc., also does business as Polymarket. The board wants a declaration that their contracts are illegal wagers here.
On January 29, 2026, Judge Jason D. Woodbury issued a 14-day restraining order. The board was “reasonably likely to prevail on the merits,” he found.
Delay would cost Nevada, he reasoned, because “every day matters in this case in a literal sense.”
By February 10, Nevada told the Ninth Circuit that Kalshi was the only prediction market still operating in the state.
Polymarket tried to move the case to federal court. On March 2, Judge Miranda M. Du sent it back, finding the claims arise under state law.
The board renewed its injunction request on April 8. Woodbury granted it on May 29, with a written order to follow.
Polymarket is not a party to the Ninth Circuit case against Nevada. But on August 28, that court rejected the same federal defense from Kalshi, Crypto.com and Robinhood.
What could change Polymarket's status in Nevada
Not much, soon. The injunction stays in force while the Carson City case moves toward a final ruling.
The bigger lever is federal. Robinhood and Crypto.com have asked the Supreme Court to overturn the Ninth Circuit's Nevada rulings. New Jersey wants the split settled.
Kalshi has also asked the Ninth Circuit to rehear its case. A win for the exchanges could weaken Nevada's position in its own courts.
Federal regulators could act too. The CFTC proposed a rule in June 2026 that would allow sports contracts nationwide.
Congress is pulling the other way. Nevada's Reps. Steven Horsford and Mark Amodei want sports contracts banned outright. Our litigation tracker follows each case.

How Polymarket compares to sports betting in Nevada
Nevada has licensed sports betting since 1949. Its 186 sportsbooks took $133.8 million on the February 2026 Super Bowl.
A Nevada sportsbook sets its own line and takes the other side of your bet. Polymarket matches you with another trader instead.
Nevada's regulators say that difference changes nothing. “Anytime you risk money on the uncertain outcome of a sporting event, that's a bet,” Dreitzer said.
The rules around the bet differ, though. Licensed books pay state gaming taxes and take bettors from 21. Prediction markets pay no Nevada gaming tax.
So for a Raiders game in Nevada, the legal option is a licensed Nevada sportsbook.

Robinhood cannot open new sports contracts for Nevadans, as our Robinhood Nevada page explains. Coinbase, Novig, Underdog, ProphetX and PrizePicks skip the state.

How to use Polymarket in Nevada
For now, you cannot. Polymarket US does not operate in Nevada, and the court order stands.
If you opened an account elsewhere, withdrawals follow the usual rules. Money goes back to the card or bank account it came from.
Card and bank withdrawals take 3 to 4 business days, and wires about 1. Deposits must clear before they can leave.
